This is pretty cool! Is the layout or board available?
-
Heehee there's not a lot of work that went into it. Just flipped the mixer upside down so that it would be easy to connect to the AY.
Yes the PCB could be much smaller, but I don't need smaller ... this will be my own home etch job, which tends to be a little imperfect, so nice and big means nice and easy to troubleshoot.
As a Canadian, instead of "MIDIbox AY" I might have to call this project "MIDIbox, eh?"

Lookin good! Did you test it?

Thanks Hawk! Getting the right button height took hours of measurements and calculations... the spacers had to be between 5.5 and 5.8 mm. If the spacers were any bigger, the buttons would be flush with the panel, and if they were any smaller, the BPM display would not leave room for a lens.
Greets back,
Steve

Thanks Flip! A few things slowed me down over the past few months, but I'm back on it now. I really want to see this box done!

I really like the look of this. What is the name of the soldermask product? There aren't a lot of spray soldermasks on the market here.
Thanks

Holy crap.

Nice job Hawk. Really quite cool - but can you see the actual LEDs through the knobs? Should they be diffused a bit, somehow?
The VFD is amazing - I assume it glows the "normal" greenish/blueish colour, which means it is AWESOME that it can still be so bright through a red filter.

This looks really, really great.

Please tell me how you did the paint work and got the text so nice ... did you silk screen?

Um .............
WOW.

It's not quite working right yet!

panel is 5.5" x 6.5". the board is 5" x 6.5".
-
um... there are no knobs yet. those are illuminated pushbuttons.

hehehe sure, if anybody wants it. it's just a midibox 808 with a funny layout :) i had 3 made, but i have plans for all 3 of them: 2 Hammond enclosures, 1 Eurorack.
Just finished doing my electrical tests, and i think the DIN/DOUT chains will work fine. I wish I had taken some extra time to put the banksticks, plus the extra 1 DIN and 2 DOUT SR's on this board. So the final project will consist of a Core, this "panel" board, and what I'm calling an "aux" board with the extra SR's and BankSticks.

this looks really cool
inspired by Future Retro Revolution ?
Interesting ... until now I hadn't seen that. Inspired actually by the Buchla, Klee and MFOS analog designs I've seen. This is actually a very compact package though. The encoder in the centre controls instrument select, but I hope to make it also do "rotate" using a modifier key

The spacers visible on the board plus 4 more corner spacers will be jb-welded, Wilba style, to the front panel
