Caveat Emptor.
On another note.... you might check with the people you bought the money order from, and see if they are willing to give you a legal copy of the purchase transaction. I would think they would, if you used some sort of trackable money path.... credit/debit card. If it was in cash.. you might have to provide identification of your persona, but that should not be too difficult.

This sounds like a really cool idea.
I have not done any midibox SID stuff (I simply can not bring myself to the point of dissecting my old C64's :'( ) . However, I would think, building an internal power supply that feeds all of the voltages and correct current to the various modules, then feeding that with a good wall wart plug in supply, would be the easiest way.

'Screening' ? is this the same as 'Shielding' ? ..... a ground wire(or multiples of grounding wires) embedded in the cable...?

Gee, Robin,
I use din's to encode an old keyboard (korg poly ensemble S) for my moog modular controller, and the cable distance I use is at least 2 meters. However, I am only using 2 din's for this purpose. I din is in the keyboard case and max cable length from the HI-C key is about a meter, then I use a 25 pin parallel port ribbon cable to hook both it and my pots on the keyboard to the core/din on the first midibox (I don't use any buttons only pots on the second core).... approx 2 meters of ribbon, but I think it would work with more. I DID have to run 2 extra lines for power to the din on the keyboard, double the current capacity. Have you tried feedin a bit more current to the kbd/din combo?

I don't have a problem with shipping to you, sure it's less than a pound (at least the ones on my workspace, I'm pretty sure I have pounds of 'em out in the garage tho')... maybe we can trade for an encoder or two, I'm wanting to experiment with those on a couple of my midiboxes.
Anyway, pm me your address, and I will start digging these things out and send in the next week or so.

I wanna get in on this one! I have quite a few of these things! both .3 and .6 (8 pin through 40 pin). I never throw anything away and have been working with electronix stuff since the early '70's!
Not quite sure where DAVO is located, but I'm in Texas so shipping is not a problem. It would clear up a bit of space on my workbench and storage areas, so I am thinking just giving them to you is a good option (no trades required).

I think TK could probably care less how you modify the splash screen, as long as you don't try to sell the gizmo, and don't bug him too much with support for the thing.

uhhh.... i will happily sent you one... but I would think the shipping to Deutschland is about 100 times the cost of the chip. maybe the spec should be changed to reflect the 'HC' version for klein bisschen mehr geld. I can get the LS and HC versions in the US for the same price.... approx. 45pfennig.

I had these same type problems when selecting '165s. I found some 'LS165's that would work and some that would not. I'm thinking the ones that worked were from hitachi or toshiba... I finally gave up and went exclusively with 'HCs no matter the manufacturer, they all seem to function correctly.
Of course, if possible, populate the boards with chips from the same company.
I have standardized on some that I can get locally.... CD74HC165E 's from RCA.

hmmm....
as poor as my coding skills are, I think I will just go with the 10 dollar option of 4 buttons and an extra LCD display. :)
I have enough spare cores and testbed breadboards, I will experiment with the programming before my next project, and keep you posted!

I saw on the midibox-link page an example of 3 cores .... the first two forwarding button events and lcd data to a single lcd on core#3 . I am using a 2 core system. I am wanting to get rid of the extra lcd on my core#1 and have all button/lcd stuff show up on core#2.(oh, and get rid of the buttons on core#2 at the same time).... buttons on core#1 / lcd on core#2. button events and lcd data show up on core#2 lcd. Does this make any sense?
Anybody give me an idea of where to look in order to accomplish this?

I use 2 of these in tandem with a couple of single strip ones.... don't know where you are but maybe they are available in your area.

I've been a Walter Carlos fan since 'Switched on Bach' back about '67 or so,(think I still have all of his/her VINYL in the attic) and at that time I was about 11 or 12

Sorry bud, thought I had gotten back to you on this months ago. I looked high and low for those, finally found what I thought was the TI chip; turned out to be a 'AY-XXX something or other' still a sound chip but not analog like the TI was. It's a pcm device that I got at RadioShack back in the late 70's. Quite a bit different from the TI. I know I have the TI chips (because I remember playing with it 20 years ago) but as of yet, have not dug deep enough into my pile. I have a whole garage full of old junk aquired over the last 35 years or so ... robotics, music, computers, tv typewriter, lasers... etc....
One of my new years resolutions is to CLEAN OUT MY DANG GARAGE!!!!! so don't give up yet. :-\

agreed with TK.... midibox seq is the arpegiator... I have played with this and it really out performs the arpeggiator on my ms2000 and anything else I have done with hardware

you will need 2 cores and 4 ains.... i ran up against this with my MoogModular controller.
