Sorry, but this is not correct. The LF is just the Low-Power Version. PIC18F and PIC18LF will work fine for Midibox. Some of my ML-303 Prototypes are running with PIC18LF since months without problems. So if you order samples you can get 3x F and 2x LF so you get 5 working PICs - for free.

I think when you put 20k in parallel it wont work linear...

As for the buttons, I've been looking for those that have the LED built-in, You could use DELTRON Tactswitches with Transparent Knobs. They are available in different sizes from www.conrad.de but they are a bit expensive. There is no LED included but can be mounted by yourself (a little bit tricky). Or you could order them from www.farnell.com there is the LED allready mounted but *VERY* expensive. Sorry 4 my bad english.
