  1. Ok, thanx for the replies. I guess we'll go the one core one box way then. I'll figure out if I can use midi pin to drive power. I still haven't found how you can connect 1 joystick, 4 pots and 4 buttons to the core directly without any DIN or AIN. Can you explain it ? I search the wiki and forum and didn't find an description. Also this is not my first midibox, I built a complete CS Midibox SID two years ago (seems far now :P) so I have some basic knowledge of the things going on, but not clue about direct connections... I doubt they are. Probably age 7 to 10.
  2. Is there a way to 'amplify' the signal, by putting some line driver, amp or something in the box or on the brain box ? If I go the one box one core way I'd still need 1xDIN and 1XAIN, I can't connect the pots, button and joystick to the core directly, or can I ? By chaining you mean connecting the cores together or merging one midi out to one midi in ?
  3. The box are not for selling but for educational purpose (class for kids to introduce them to sound and video manipulation) We'd rather have one brain so it reduces soldering, costs, need of one power supply and no need for a midi merger box. What is the length we can use ? I thougth about 5 meters from one box to the brain ?
  4. Thanx for the reply, you confirm my assumption. 1x core, 1x DOUT4, 1xDIN, 2xAIN and that's it I guess.
  5. I need to build for a friend 10 simple midi controller box consisting of 1 joystick and 3 or 4 knobs, probably 2 or 3 buttons and 1 led. What I want to do is built the box with pots and buttons and connect all the box to a main unit, where the the brain of the controllers will be. So I was wondering If I could do this with MidiBox ? What do i need ? would 1 core module be enough ? Can I use 2 AIN modules with demutlipler to reach 64 inputs ? Or should I rather use encoders and DIN ? I guess a joystick is analog only and thus need AIN, right ? 1 DOUT would be enough I guess. Is it very likely that we'll need more than 10 units in the end so I'm rather going for more inputs than less. Thanx for your advice !
  7. So finally Moxi will not order at Mouser. I'm still looking for someone who could buy and send me these ICs.
  8. Hi, Merci Moxi ! Thax for your offer. Actually I'd need to get the IC before April 20th, do you think it's possible for you to order and received your order at that date ?
  9. Here is the story: In order to fix an old organ I bought I need to get two of this IC: MMI S11359. These are not produced anymore but mouser sells NTE74S113 that are supposed to be equivalent (I'm not even sure). These cost less than 2$ each. But I live in France and If I order I have to pay for at least 15 $ shipping, which is not interesting for me considering the price I paid for the organ and considering I'm not sure it will work. So my question is: can some nice amercan fellow order these chips or buy them at their local store if available and send them to me on a plain enveloppe. This woul normally cost 5,25 $ (with Global Priority Mail flat-rate envelope). I'd really appreciate the help. OR if some French or european person order at Mouser it will work too. Of course if you know where to buy original MMI S11359 that would be awesome.
  10. Thanx for the replies and sorry for the delay, I've been more than busy. DOC, you understood what I meant (at least someone did). This is exactly what I was asking at first. I haven't checked inside the MS20 so I'll do that as soon as I have some time. This would be the idea: to add a second controller (or modify the first one) in order to use the keyboard as a standalone MIDI keyboard. Henrygr This is not possible, that's what DrBunsen means by USB host and device. Both M-audio and MS20 are devices so that need a host (the computer).
  11. Well I was asking for some hardware modification to have a standard midi interface with a standard DIN socket and asked if it was possible to use part of the imbedded USB interface... in order not to use a computer ;) Get my point ? I already have a MIDI interface for my computer so I can already control and filter the keyboard to send it back to other hardware. But i'm asking for a way to do it hardware. Forget the USB, consider I have a electronic keyboard that needs a standard MIDI interface, what are the options ?
  12. I think you didn't get want I want to do... I have this keyboard with a USB midi interface. What I want is use this keyboard standalone, to control other hardware. I don't want it to be connected to a computer so I need a Midi Out din socket. I asked if it was possible to use the imbedded usb interface and add a socket or if I had to build a new standard keyboard midi interface.
  13. The most important part for me is to get the Midi OUT socket, so the USB to MIDI interface. Because once I got the Out socket, I can merge the data into some other gear for instance. I wasn't necessarly looking for a MidiBox solution, just wanted to know if this is possible and how. Thanx for the reply
  14. Thanx for the reply. I know MidiOx, I use it almost every day to route, filter etc my gear and I know it's easy to do this with the software. But what I want to do is have a hardware interface on the keyboard and to have the channel selection and program change hardware too.
  16. I recently purchased the Korg Legacy Collection wich comes with a MS20 controller. Works very nice. Only thing is that the thing is USB only. So I wanted to know how difficult is it to add a standard midi socket. Two other things I like to add: -The keyboard only transmit on channel 1. Is it possible to modify it in order to be able to transmit on 16 channel (using a button to chose midi channel) -Two buttons that transmits program changes Let me know if any of these mods are realistic or not ;D
  17. That is exactly what i'm asking ;D What kind of pot should I use and where should I solder it ?
  18. So there's no way to efficiently control volume from the SID ?
  19. Hi, I started my SID a long time ago and haven't finished it yet. Most of the stuff is done, I'm now moving to programing part. I wanted to know if it's possible to add a volume knob, either by using one of the encoder and assigning to CC7 (i guess) or by using a pot. I'd rather have that last option since I need not to use one of the encoder for that purpose. Is it doable to add a simple pot ? How to ?
  20. Thanx for the reply. I know what balanced inputs/outputs are and what could be the benefits of them. But I didn't know of transformers. Or maybe is it because of the 'language barrier'. ;)
  21. Could someone explain what a transformer is, what it does, what could be the benefit in adding one in the SID and how it should be done ? Thanx ;D
  22. Is it possible to use toggle switch with MIDIBOX SID ? I want to use some for parameters that have only two states, for instance edit mode (on/off) enveloppe(1/2) link etc I'm just beginning so as far as programming is concerned I don't know much ::) Currently toggle switch works but not in toggle mode, I mean the switch has to be in the same state for the parameter to change (for instance if env 1 is selected when switch is on then when going to off state nothing happens and when going back to on state it changes to env 2. And then going to off again doesn't change etc) It must be easy but I didn't grasp the code so far...
  23. I'm building my midibox and so far it works great :P But on the C64 Optimized PSU (which I build without the power switches) there are 2 power switches used. Is it possible to use only one switch ?
