  6. [SOLD] Midibox SID V1 8580 for sale

    Hi All,

     

    As per this thread

     

     

    I am selling my Midibox SID V1 with 4 8589 SID's, not working - selling for parts only.

     

    It worked flawessly for many years but now has been sitting in storage for a while and won’t power up. It is possible that it could be repaired, but I seriously doubt any electronics repair shops would touch it given it was not built to be serviced. The photos show the internals so you know what you are getting yourself into!

     

    This 2RU version has a long white text on blue LCD screen and is stacked with many Midibox boards inside it including 4 x PIC based core boards, 4 x SID host boards (complete with SID 8580 chips), digital in boards for the rotary encoders and digital out boards for the LED’s that are panel mounted on the control surface.

     

    Unless you are a midibox enthusiast with a lot of knowledge and time on your hands I would say repairing the unit would be beyond reach, however if you are looking to get started building your own midi boxes there are a lot of complete (I presume working, but buyer beware) boards within it you can easily use for other midibox projects. Alternatively you could just strip out the PIC (and other) chips, SID chips, display etc and start your own project.

     

    I can verify that there was no electronic incident (eg surge, short or other electronic issue) that caused the unit to cease working. It is most likely mechanical failure of a solder join somewhere witihn it. I have provided photos so you can see what you are getting yourself into if you decide to try to repair it.

     

    The rear panel allows for a memory expansion (which I am not offering as I still use it on another midibox in my studio), midi in/out/thru as well as audio in (to the SID chips and filters) and out. A stereo jack will allow both in/out in the one cable.

    Hi TK,

     

    I have previously had permission (some years ago) to sell my midiboxes that I was no longer using. I had not done so yet, but was looking to do so now. What I wish to sell is:

     

    1 x Midibox SID v2 (8x6582)

    1 x Midibox Delay

    1 x Midibox SID v1 (4x 8580) *dead* for parts only

     

    Before I went ahead to sell them I thought I'd check in again with you as I could not find the email or message with your permission.

     

    I still have my Midibox Sequencer (which used to be in the gallery, but no longer is). I'm never selling that one!

  13. MIOS Studio suddenly not working OSX 10.5.8

    Im having a similar issue. Im running 10.5.8 (Have 10.6 but the beta drivers for my Presonus Firestudio arent worth using yet). I had installed Mandalone, then used the SID Editor yesterday, also used the MIOS Studio app without issues. Now Neither will load, I get the following error message:

    I think encoders would work just fine as its pretty simple and there isnt any double pressing involved from what I remember of it. I would put in a button for "slave" which sets the BPM to zero and puts it into slave mode if you can work out how to do it. Constantly pushing the bpm down button on boot up is a bit annoying :)

    I cant believe I will finally have a reason to build a new midibox sequencer :) Woohoo

    (The V3 I have was never 100% due to my own faults in construction)

    A feature I would really love to see would be to have some LFO's which can be connected to CC values and have their settings stored per track, maybe more than 1 LFO per track so you could have programmed CC's as previously implemented and also LFO based CC's which could sync (or not) in various way to the midi clock.

    I also wanted to see midi FX included in previous versions like delays etc.

    I think I want to build one with a very large editing surface too. I have been out of touch from the whole midibox scene for a while, is it possible yet to have a screen set per track and to combine this with an editing surface with LEDs/buttons etc like TK's one but for each track?? Im thinking a doepher sized machine here....

    It would be awesome if multi midi outputs and or cv/gate outputs were accessable via usb as a regular midi device so you could use the sequencer as a midi interface of sorts (but maybe with added routing options??)

    Getting away from the concept of "groups" would be nice too for the tracks. Perhaps having 16 buttons for the channels and then layers for each track on 4 or so buttons would be easier. Not having to save/load groups would be nice too.

    I really like the idea of the midi file import/export from SD card....

    Song mode real time recording of CC changes would be awesome (with the ability to mute the recorded changes for live performance).

    Being able to "name" channels to an instrument would be nice, but might not work for everyone.

    Having songs recall programs/volumes/pans etc (ie a reworking of the mixer page that was stored per song) would be cool too and send them on load.

    To be able to "Play" patterns in real time from an external keyboard, but to have the keys sync (or not) to the beat/bar etc for real time arranging in a live situation. Perhaps you could play whole patterns on some keys, and just channels of patterns on other keys??

    Ive always wanted to see the old roland tr-808 style "fill" feature go into a proper drum sequencer where you can write a couple of fills of each pattern and switch to them adlib. On that same subject a dedicated bassline style sequencer a la TB 303 with simple instant control of octave/slide/accent built into a more bassline friendly environment would be really handy.

    A touch screen KAOSS pad(s) would be the ultimate for live CC's, (built into the control surface or as a tablet on a cable) but im sure is way outside what is happening in this version??? I can only ask :)

    Hi All,

    Ive finally got my new studio set up (thats why Ive been missing in action for ages!!), but now I have a few midi routing issued I need sorted out that are holding me up.

    A bit of brief history... I used to use old macs for midi routing via an opcode studio 4 (or two) and OMS using studio patches... You might laugh, but to my horror it seems to be the only real solution for midi routing...

    I have just set up the following rig

    PC running windows XP with various applications (mainly using cubase SX 3 for recording midi data and audio)

    Midisport 8x8/s midi interface

    Midisport 2x2 midi interface

    Midisport Keystation

    Presonus FP10 audio/midi interface

    Midibox SID V1 4sids

    Midibox SID V2 8sids

    What i aim to do is to be able to have inputs come from every instrument into cubase to record cc changes, program changes etc... (working)

    I also want to be able to have the 4 IIC outputs from the Midibox sequencer going into the PC, and (most importantly) to be able to send them off to route notes/cc's from the sequencer into multiple channels of any instrument in the setup (and record it, and play it back).With cubase (all midi software on the PC) when you select a track (tracks) for recording it seems that all the notes from the sequencer are hard wired to that channel (or port) only. The problem is that I cant find any sort of midi routing software which will allow me to multi track record midi from multiple ports to multiple ports at the same time.

    With OMS on the old mac you could use studio patches (the program) to assign any kind of midi routing you like (any channel any port to any channel any port in any combination at the same time) and then in logic or simiar you could have the whole thing record into it via the IAC bus (which then could be split out into respective channels for editing easily). On the PC there seems to be no equal to this. I know on OSX you can use the midi patchbay to do similar things, but still not as detailed, and I dont want to be stuck using a hackintosh for my studio if I dont want to.

    Does anyone have either a suggestion of a program on windows that will do the same routing complexity, or could suggest another way (other than limiting the whole rig to 16 channels for ease of routing) to get around the aparent lack of routing on windows XP? I have seen the various midi yoke type programs but im not convinced they are going to do what I need...

    TK, would your midi router be something that could help here? Id build it to integrate if it might solve some of these problems :)

    I managed to find that it happens from the random page quite a bit after hitting generate, it clears back to normal when you navigate away from the screen. Only the left lcd is effected. I took a screen grab (haha!) with my camera, will upload tonight.

    I had uploaded MIOS and the seq app again and it still happened.

    as i'm a lucky owner of a mb6582, i dont like the idea to have an external midi sequencer, it's my new "groovebox" ! ;)

    That makes me excited! Ive kept a blind eye to the firmware development, but now im only days off finishing my 6882, I cant wait to try the sequencer features etc.
