  1. Hiya!

Ill let you know my results as soon as I get my midi out working! It could be made smaller I think by using encoders if you needed it to. Theres nothing in the sequencer that will do the delays like this will. In fact I think building it into the same case would be a great idea and having one IIC dedicated to the delay out or switched between it and another output.

Ive added an LTC into mine for a second midi out for further layering of sounds from another source using the same delays.

On the down side it doesn't seem to have program memory so its a "jamming" tool only from what I can see.

    All the best,

    John

  2. Thanks M8!

Worked a charm. All the buttons etc are working fine now  ;D

My only real problem now is that the midi out wont work. Maybe its the wiring. The LTC lights up on midi in, but nothing on the out ever flashes, nor do the signals make it out of the box on out1 or out2.

So close to finally testing this thing out!!!

    All the best,

    John

  3. Hey M8,

Thanks for the response, I dont think I was clear enough. I need some way to know what button 1 is ie:

    SR  Pin  Name

    1    1    BPM up

    1    2    BPM down

    1    3    Channel config up

    1    4    Channel config down

etc etc (obvioulsy these ones arent right)..

Have I missed an area in the config files showing which pins go to which functions?

Any suggestions would be cool :)

    Thanks,

    John

  4. Hi All,

Just incase anyone was interested I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the MMD so far. Not sure if its going to work, but it powers up and the screen comes on. Still have to cut the holes for the midi out and thru and wire up all the front panel buttons to the DIN board.

    All the best,

    John

  5. Hiya,

Im havingsome trouble with opening MIOS Studio. At the moment im using a G3 PPC OSX 10.3.9 with plumstone installed as per their instructions. When I load it the MIOS Studio title screen comes up but goes no further. Anyone seen this before? I should also mention I am running the stealth midi driver so I can use my roland serial midi outputs and inputs.

    Thanks,

    John

  6. Personally I really like the idea of having a nice little mixer built into the project with digital control of the outputs. I would say however that the MBHP seems to strive towards two goals related to this (hope im not speaking out of line here, just my observation) which are 1) it must be easy to solder for a person with entry level skills 2) the chips must be very easy to get world wide.

I'm not too sure how easy these are to get, but Im guessing that there not as easy to get as other chips (only as Ive never seen one but i'm a bit of a newbie), and from the PGA package shown in the PDF i'm also guessing that they wouldn't be easy to solder for a newbie? Other projects in the MBHP which have had hard to find parts have not worked out so well like the chips for the Aout which then takes a lot of time to try to find the chips, and even more time to develop easy to get alternatives like the Aout LC.

Perhaps i'm totally wrong, maybe this chip can come in an easier to solder configuration? Maybe it is easy to get? Also maybe as it wouldn't be on the acutal sid board its a cool extra for people willing to build a board... If its viable would someone here have the skills and time to make up the PCB?

    All the best,

    John

  7. Ok then, ive gone out on a limb and made a panel design for people to comment on as to if it would be enough to control all aspects of the MMD. Does anyone know what the 8 encoders would control and if they are needed to be added? This design is using all buttons only so all the holes are for momentary switches. I would have liked to add LED's too but im not sure as to what they may indicate other than that a button was pressed. It is also for a 20x2 LCD,

Would this configuation do? Any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    John

PS: This design was measured up for this enclosure (can be ordered easily in Australia and maybe elsewhere) http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=HB6130&CATID=5&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=644

  8. Hi all,

Is it possible to use an AinX4 board with the 64E? I want to make a fairly decent (full) 64E and also want to be able to add the http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_ext.html LFO extension as a control source. Would this be too difficult? Im also looking for a source of the ICL8038 chips for the LFO extension if anyone has any to buy or trade.  Im going to build one of AC's sensorizer boxes too, so maybe I should just plug the LFO extenion into it instead of the MB64E?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    John

  9. Has anyone got any suggestions on the panel layout for this one? Ive got all the hardware ready to go but im not too keen on drilling into a box yet until I have an idea of the layout, which isnt clear to me from the software.

What I need to know is if there are particular menu controls (ie buttons for screen, menu encoder etc) and if there are logical groupings of the 30 buttons, and if the 8 encoders would replace or compliment the 30 buttons.

Anyone built one? If so got any suggestions, pictures, FPD files?

    Thanks,

    John

  10. Personally Id prefer it to be squeezed in after Note/CC/Len, but only as I don't care if I loose my patches (if its done soon as I have a live show booked v soon with it :) after that I will care if my patches wont work again) but if other people wouldn't like it there then I could deal with it at the end of the list, but it seems more logical to have it after Note/CC/Len. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Tonight I get to try out the update for the first time!! Woohoo!!

  11. I like the look of your panel layout! Just a hopefully helpful suggestion... Im not certain but are your group buttons set out right? It has labels for 16 groups and 4 tracks but you get 16 tracks and 4 groups, maybe im missing your intention here, but thought id say something just incase as panels are expensive to do twice :)

  12. Still havent been able to use the new build!! Cant wait!!

From my oppinion it would fit best at the position which is currently used for Note/CC/Len - does anybody use this one? If not, I will replace it

Im sorry to say, I use that one as well :)

Any room for a new one? Obviously the drum mode and chords modes couldnt go...

  13. First things first, WOOOHOO!! Thanks TK! Especially for the improvements to the song mode. I havent been able to try it yet, but I will as soon as I can.

The ability to solo each IIC output for multi port recording of midi events easily in an external sequencer

You can already do this by pressing and holding the MUTE button. Now you can select multiple tracks with the GP buttons. All selected tracks will be solo'ed when you activate the SOLO function.

I know you can do it that way, but I need to then go look up the IIC used in the menu of each track, make note of them all then go mute each one. What I was hoping for was to be able to solo everything from IIC1 (for example) from a menu, for midi recording in a multiport situation as it would be much easier and quicker that way.

The ability to copy all parameters in a track when using the copy feature in the utility menu ie inc all menu item selections as well as notes and layers

I will add a sequencer option for this alternative behaviour sooner or later (not guaranteed to be included into the v3.0, which I'm planning to release soon to get a free head for MBSID V2

Awesome, this will make 1:1 copies of each track ie all settings copied??

MIDI Fx: planned, but not for V3.0, as it will require a lot of programming effort. I'm not sure if I would use this by myself, because most of my synths are voice limited, so that I prefer audio Fx (therefore: low priority)

Personally im the opposite, Ive got a lot of  synths and not much in the way of audio FX. Id be REALLY keen to see as much in the way of midiFX as possible built into this beast! Is anyone else interested in this?? Im currently trying to build the MBHP Midi Delay just to add some, but im sure that this and much more could be a part of the  sequencer???

Changed progression: this is already possible by using the Loopback. You can control CC#41, CC#42, CC#43 (see mbseqv3_cc_implementation.txt) from another track. You can use a clock divider on this track to make changes each 16, 32, 64 steps or so....

I want to highlight, that there might be more possibilities available than anybody ever have thought of ;-

I see where you are coming from, personally I have never used the loopback channels, never thought I had the need... You hit the nail on the head with what I wanted from the progression mode (except I thought changing keys over time would also be cool). Is there a way to make a menu to make the usage more straight forward? I will try to use the loopback channel to see what results I can get. Since there is no manual yet, could you explain what can be recorded into the loopback channel? Is it just the cc's? Whats the deal with the NRPN stuff there in the cc implementation? Do you need to do something special to use it?

Re introduction of the "Shift" feature (I remeber seeing that this was still possible but I cant recall where?? Especially as now F1 opens the utility menu)

It's called "Scrl" (for scroll), as the term "Shift" might be misleading.

The feature I liked was the one where you could "turn" the whole pattern left or right in real time, is it still in there somewhere?

Also, I recall a long time ago saying I would like note cc cc (fixed vel) as a track event assignment, and you saidit was there, but I looked again and didnt see it, what number is it? Sorry, am I blind?

A way to chain songs even if it is very simple (sorry had to ask 1 more time Smiley its important to me. )

it's finally available now, after I head to overwork most of the song handling in order to realize such special actions. Therefore it took a little bit longer (it wasn't so simple as expected)

Ill say it again, WOOHOOWWW!!! I cant wait to try it!! Sounds like phrase mode is going to be very cool live... Ive got a gig coming up soon which I really needed something like this for, so thanks!!!!!!!!!!

A way to load up and dump a mixermap automatically when you load up a certain pattern (if this wouldnt disrupt anything else??).

Mixer maps can now be dumped within Songs (or Phrases) as well

A direct link to patterns is not possible for conceptional reasons (as the content of mixer maps is not directly related to the content of patterns)

I havent been able to try yet so perhaps it will be obvious but does this mean that song 1 references patterns 1-4 which when pattern 1 plays it will dump the mixermap associated with it in the song, then when you get to pattern 2 a new mixer map will be dumped (so volumes, program changes, initial cc's etc can be dumped during playback different for each pattern or song??)

Wow, I cant wait to get in front of my sequencer!!!!! Thanks so much TK!!!!!!!!!

    John

  14. Hey M8,

Sorry for the long delay! excuse the bad pun :)

Im not sure on what I want to do, looking for some suggestions from someone who knows more about it or has used it.

Basically I cant imagine how the interface would normally work ie is there a menu encoder, buttons under the screen like in the sid, would/could you use the 30 buttons and 8 encoders or whatever (and would that make sense??). How would it be laid out on a panel ie would 3 rows of 10 buttons and a screen be a good layout or are the buttons grouped by function etc??

I really want to buildone of these and ive got all the hardware ready, but I dont want to build a case etc not knowing how it would work.....

Obviously looking at the code hasnt revealed inspiration for a layout for me...Suggestions???

    Cheers,

    John

  15. Unfortuantly the "latest" os for this machine is 7.5.3 which is a great os, but came well before java was invented.. No MIOS studio. In fact its only real use is to be able to record the notes coming from 1 IIC port at a time and play them back, but thats pretty important to me! I dont understand (but im sure theres a good reason for it) why song chaining cant be done, if a song can reference a new pattern as a part of it, cant the last change be to reference a new song instead? Like song mode on all TRx0x sequencers?? In any case, perhaps some of the other ideas might work out for people??

  16. Hehehe!!

Only as as a data recorder, nothing more, in fact its logic on an old 25mhz Apple 540c laptop with 12mb of ram, so its not really a sequencer :)

If the song chain function was implemented then maybe I wouldnt even need it.

    All the best,

    John

  17. After using the seq quite a bit more I propose the following as handy features for consideration if other people would also use them and TK or others were willing to implement them...

The ability to solo each IIC output for multi port recording of midi events easily in an external sequencer

The ability to copy all parameters in a track when using the copy feature in the utility menu ie inc all menu item selections as well as notes and layers

A midi multi tap delay effect and maybe other midi FX as well as the current chords and progression type effects - id love to see the progression mode expanded somehow to allow for other uses where progression could also change after 1,2,4,8,16 bar cyles etc - maybe too complex??

Re introduction of the "Shift" feature (I remeber seeing that this was still possible but I cant recall where?? Especially as now F1 opens the utility menu)

A way to chain songs even if it is very simple (sorry had to ask 1 more time :) its important to me. )

A way to load up and dump a mixermap automatically when you load up a certain pattern (if this wouldnt disrupt anything else??).

Does anyone else think that any of this would be helpful for them too? Would these be technically possible?

    All the best,

    John

  18. Hi All,

Ive got a green/blue (not black) Korg MS2000-R for sale which is in good condition except for a small rack rash (I can throw in some large black plastic washers to cover this for your rack). It comes with a 240v PSU, manual and Im pretty sure I have the original box somewhere too.

If anyone is interested let me know and I will provide photos of the unit. Im looking for about $600 AU for the unit which I think is a great price.

If anyone doesnt know what it is have a look here:

    http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=MS2000R

(once again mine is not the black one, its the blue green one, the difference is only in colour).

It has a very cool step sequencer buit in, can act as a vocoder over an external input, has a built in keyboard to play the sounds, as well as a virtual patch section to allow the routing of the modulation signals internally. This unit is actually VERY useful as a midi control surface as all the knobs send midi already, and the keys send notes.

Id prefer Australian customers so as to keep the shipping costs down, and I would also prefer insurance on the shipping just incase anything happens to it on the way, I dont want to be responsible, or for you to be unsatisfied :) I will provide shipping info to serious buyers only.

I can also throw in a bunch of programs for it on a CD including the programs from the black version as well as some of my own if the buyer is interested.

    Thanks for looking,

    John

  19. Artesia, I hope that its just Analogbrotha being all caught up over the holidays as many of us can be! Ive known Analogbrotha (over email) for ages and I think he is alright, Im sure he will do the right thing when he responds. Also he is way out in the far north of canada so your package will take a while im sure :) Let us know how you go.

Also anyone looking for C64 housings or mainboards (SIDless), esp in Australia, I have some of each and also a C64 disk drive PSU which I could part with for some $.

    Cheers,

    John
