ahahah funny guy that moebius! ;D ok, so basicly, in the lcd, the interconnection test shows me only the pins of the sid and nothing else, right? and even if instead of a keyboard i use logic or cubase to see the values, anyway i need the multimeter, right? ...just to know...
-
unluckily, now i don't have a tester with me, but, just to know, what kind of message should i get if all the connections are ok?
-
i finally been able to upload the sid application then i tryed to check my midibox with the interconnection test and i got this message test SID module pin:A0 what does it means? is my sid chip damaged or is something about the bad soldering? i'm looking at the pin and it looks good... any tips?

ok guys after a long break from this rrreally interesting project, finally i arrived almost to the point i still to a step a i uploaded the mios and then the sid application on my lcd i have this message "midibox sid 1.7a cs not enabled" and this message, doesn't wanna disappear is it normal or something is wrong?

if my box was ready, i was already preparing a lot of drum patches.... a while ago i did a 4 complete drum kit + bleps, clicks and snaps using a couple of ms20 but to save them i used a sampler, in this case could be just better... sigh..sigh...i feel so useless...

sorry guys if i'm answering so late but today i was out of town, anyway yes, last night i tryed also with the midi troubleshooting and i will try again later because i'm far from my box now apparently everything was allright.... i'll let you know tomorrow, today i'm a bit messed thanx again

difference beetween the 2 optimized c64 psu boards?
tokyomatik replied to tokyomatik's topic in MIDIbox SID
OK! sounds like a lego gameto me but is allright thank you guys -
ok guys i fixed the connection j2 - j10 included the 5v from the psu to j2 of the sid but the problem with MIOS still with MIOS studio i did like this launch the application configure the connections for the midi interface open the midi in midi out monitor windows open the hex upload window browse > mios 1.8 folder > hex folder > mios 1.8.hex switch on my midibox after the message "F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7" appearde in the midi in monitor i started the upload then i got the message "upload process complete" but the message "F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7" still coming on midi in monitor every 2 second so well i don't know, but to me the upload process seemed easy, something did'nt worked properly anyway i did it also with SysExBex like this: launche the application configure the midi interface click "Open SysEx File" fmios 1.8 folder > mios_1_8.sysex (bytes to sent 15392 - blocks to sent 13) swich ton the midibox after the message "received sysex blocks from device 00 with 0 bytes in mios format - cmd 01 (not saved) click " send SysEx" but after a while the process lokks like frozen bytes to sent 7104 - blocks to sent 6 the message "received sysex blocks from device 00 with 0 bytes in mios format - cmd 01 (not saved) still let me try also with midi ox i'll let you know... but i'm so sad that is not working the procedure should be easy but what can i say? HELP!!

so i'm a bit fucked up... and i also fucked up the j2/j10 connections, ok , i'm fixing it... could be that, the reason why i'm not able to upload the mios?
-
there is a way to test to verify if the sid is working? i found a lot of troubleshootings for the core and midi and they are fine, but nothing about the sid module anyway, even if the sid is not working, i should be able to upload the mios to the core(?) right now i also have a doubt about the j2(sid) and j10(core) connections i'm supposed to use all the pins of the cable? i did like this: j2:so - j10:so j2: md - j10:md j2:rc - j10:rc j2:mu - j10:mu j2:sc - j10:sc and so on... i was supposed to leave some pins out?
-
OK...thanks a lot again, i will test everything again...
-
last question about ic1:5 and ic2:5, are these pins, supposed to receive 5v anyway??
-
anyway thanx a lot guys i will let you know in a while...
-
well if i have to connect ic1:5 to ic2:5 leaving out the resistor, to me sound like a bridge and raphael told me :No, don't make a bridge. Just leave it out like mentioned in the schematics. maybe i was not clear enough to explain but if i don't put the resistor i still remain a couple of holes on the pcb and to connect them i have to make a kind of bridge if i'm not wrong... sorry but sometimes my english is so so
-
ehm ...sorry guys, but i stayed all night long testing the connection with the tester and everything looks right i tryed to upload the mios (i'm using mios studio but i also tryed with midi ox)on the pic within 2 seconds but i still receiving back this message on the mios studio in port monitor: F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 that to me, means that only the bootloader is in the pic now i would also try the Serge's SysEx Loader, but i also have another question i did the optimized psu board x 4 but only one sid in my configuration on the schemaics i saw that the 5vdc goes to j2 of the core but also to j2 of the sid i did not this connection because this jumpers are already cooncted to j10 of the core and testing the pins i get 5v i thought that probably i was supposed to connect the 5vdc to j2(of the sid) only in the 4xsid configuration, but maybe i'm wrong...
-
HI! i'm no able to get any sound from the sid and i don't understand if everything i did was right how the interconnection test works? i mean, if i use mios studio wich files i have to upload? how can i understand if the mios 1.8 and the mbsid 1.7a are already uploaded in my modules? why i'm so dumb?
-
no sound rom my sid: i did the optimized psu board 4xsid, even if at the moment i'm using only 1 sid with minimal configuration, no display or encoder, i'm sending 5vdc to the core module and 12vac to the sid pin 5 (res#) of the sid is not connected to the 10 k resistor and to pin o5 of the ic2 mios 1.8 is already uploaded("upload process complete") and the main.hex and sertup_6581_without_cs.hex fof the mbsid 1.7a too or i think so i used mios studio i also tryed the interconnection test but the only message that i get is "upload process complete how can i fix this problem?
-
well, i did the optimized board , using mios studio, i uploaded the mios1.8 and mbsid 1.7a but no sound comes from the sid from the pin 5 of the sid, i left the 10k resistor out, but now in this way i'm not connected to to pin number 5 of IC2 i did something wrong?

difference beetween the 2 optimized c64 psu boards?
tokyomatik replied to tokyomatik's topic in MIDIbox SID
anything else? what about the sid module? should i modify it too? -
difference beetween the 2 optimized c64 psu boards?
tokyomatik replied to tokyomatik's topic in MIDIbox SID
probably i sound stupid but to ask before to act for a beginner is always better it's just, that for looks a bit weird everything; i mean, first i did core module following the instruction included the 7805 and then to give power to it, with the optimized psu you have to remove it... it's like unusual i'm removing it...stop me if i'm wrong!!! i have to make a bridge with those 3 holes? -
difference beetween the 2 optimized c64 psu boards?
tokyomatik replied to tokyomatik's topic in MIDIbox SID
i'm doing the optimized one, but after that, should i modify the core module? i read on the pdf that 7805 has to be removed, but i already did my core module!!! -
i noticed that the mbhp_sid_c64_psu.pdf is different respect to mbhp_4xsid_c64_psu_optimized.pdf wich one should i try to realize? now i have only one sid, but i'm planning to add at least another module soon so wich one is the best?
-
i'm at that point too, how did you solved the problem? can you help me?

i have found a couple of c64 power suppliers, and my intention is to use one of these to give power to my mb sid, one is the first model used by the "brown" c64 the other is smaller and squared like a box, probably was for the "grey" c64 wich one is better to power up my sid? and if i have use one of these transformers, what kind of modify should i apply to it, to give two different voltages (for the core 5 v, for the sid 12 v) i mean: it's the transformer that i have to modify or i have to create a kind of circuitboard so i don't have to touch the transformer? how it works exactly? i also took a look at the pdf on ucapps but it's not so clear, a friend of mine that understand about electronics a bit more than me told me that he found some incongruences on it, like two switches??, only one power connection that goes to the sid?? and so on... can you try to explain me exactly what i have to do now? the core module is ready, sid module ready too, they are already tested 5v on the core pins , same test of the 5v for the sid and then with 12v, OK now that i have to reuse the c64 transformer i'm a bit worried and i don't wanna fry everything... i'm so close....
