looks like he has built his own psu with two transformators and some additional stuff for regulation, to get the needed voltages for the core and sid modules.

i've seen a printout of the frontpanel on one of your photos. do you want to drill it yourself or will you buy the panel somewhere?

sounds a bit too expensive to me, but if they are really 100% working (like hardsids class A chips) I think they'll be worth the money.

hey, das könnte mir vielleicht sogar helfen, mein c64 diskettenlaufwerk wieder in gang zu setzen. momentan ist es so, wenn ich es einschalte bleibt der motor am laufen und hört nicht mehr auf sich zu drehen...

ok, just checked the voltage and everything...it IS 12V
look for yourself...
this is my C64C (or C64-II as some may call it):
another picture from the sticker on the backside:
if you open it up, a 6581 R4 will show up:
i measured the voltage between Vdd (which should be +12V) and Vss (GND) and it shows aproxx. 12V:
now fot the "other" C64C (or C64-II) which has a 8580 inside...
as you can see, the case looks the same but the keys are different:
the sticker on the backside even looks the same:
yes yes, I know, the spot is empty. but beleive me, a 8580 was sitting there some time ago until I took it out to fit it in my Midibox SID:
measuring again between Vdd and Vss shows 9V for the 8580:
I've never seen a 6581 which only needs 9V instead of 12V.

i think with 'slimline C64C' you mean the C64-II, right?
well, my first C64 war a C64-II with 6581 chip inside. all c64-II had a slim case, but not all c64-II were equipped with a 8580.
it's very easy to determine if a c64-II has a 6581 or 8580 inside. just look at the Function-Keys.
If everything (F1-F8) is printed on top of the keys, you will find a 8580 inside.
If F1, F3, F5 and F7 is printed on top but F2, F4, F6 and F8 is printed on front of the keys, you will find a 6581 inside.
Anyway, I haven't measured the voltages yet, but I'm almost sure that all 6581 are 9V only.
I will check my C64-II (6581) soon.

groovy in the beginning but a bit too monotone in the later part. sounds like it's not really finished yet ;)
bring in some more SID-like samples and it will rock ;)

afaik you won't be able to use the joystick ports without a SID because they are connected to the SID in a C64

Alternativ koenntest Du auch bis zu 7 BankSticks fest integrieren, und die Ports fuer den 8. BankStick am Joystick Port des C64 herausfuehren. Somit waere der dann auswechselbar.
Eine sehr nette Idee. Werde ich mir mal im Hinterkopf behalten. Danke ;)

Ich geh mal davon aus, das du keine Banksticks baust, sondern nur einen und den in einen 9pol Serial Stecker versteckst (deswegen wahrscheinlich das LTC - außer ich liege vollkommen falsch)
Ich bin noch am überlegen ob ich die Banksticks einzeln in ein Gehäuse mit 9pol D-Sub Stecker baue und dann wahlweise die Banksticks an den Gameport anschließen werde oder ob ich mir ein Board in die Midibox baue auf dem direkt 8 Banksticks draufsitzen.
Aber mit dem LTC Modul hat das reichlich wenig zu tun. Das dient mir nur dazu dass ich einen weiten MIDI-Out + MIDI-Thru in der Midibox habe, damit ich eventuell später noch weitere Midigeräte anschließen kann.

hier hab ich mal ein paar bilder von meiner psu_optimized schaltung gemacht. es sieht vielleicht beim ersten hinschauen etwas verwirrend aus, aber im endeffekt hab ich mich auch nur genau an den schaltplan gehalten und nacheinander die bauteile und drahtbrücken eingelötet:

ich hoffe nicht dass die bilder abschreckend wirken. wie gesagt, es ist eigentlich nicht so schwer ;)
ich hab zuvor auch noch nie nach schaltplan gelötet. und die anzahl der bauteile halten sich hier wirklich in grenzen.

Das SNR ist bei dieser Ausführung viel besser als bei der einfacherern Variante und kaum aufwendiger zu bauen.

ok...so if i use an old C64 psu i don't need to put B40C800/B80C800 into MBHP_CORE but only into MBHP_SID, is it right?
yeah, that's right. but if you already put a rectifier on MBHP_CORE you won't have to remove it. just make sure not to put the voltage regulator on the board but to solder a bridge between the input and output pin where the voltage regulator would sit.

Geht's jetzt um die SID-Platte?
also hier geht's eigentlich um Frontplatten allgemein. Ich persönlich versuche natürlich eine SID-Platte zu erstellen.

Ich habe mich jetzt nochmal ein wenig umgesehen und auch von einem Bekannten einen Tipp bekommen wo man eventuell günstig fräsen lassen kann.
schaut doch mal bei www.wk-mechanik.de vorbei. Habe mittels Online-Kalkulator mal ungefähr ausgerechnet, wie teuer dort die Frontplatte von Thorsten sein würde und kam auf ca. 100 EUR + MwSt. für eine Platte. Bei größeren Bestellmengen würde sich der Stückpreis natürlich entsprechend reduzieren.
Ich finde, das ist schonmal ein ganzes Stück günstiger als bei Schaeffer.
