  1. thanks a lot guys. I wasn't proceding the right way. All I had done was edit the main.asm file and ran the convertall batch file but the new program never worked so I downloaded the MPLAB IDE program and simply BUILT the edited asm file and uploaded the new hex file. It works! I finally get all the super fast retarded AIN output messages. Now i see what the fuss was about 8)
  2. I have set: #define DEFAULT_NUMBER_AIN 32 and #define DEFAULT_ENABLE_AIN_MUX 1 recombined with Convertall.bat and re-uploaded the updated main.syx with the MB64E sysexbox GUI. I still dont get anything. Am i forgetting to edit something in the main.asm ?
  3. I read in the other thread regarding pots that, in order to use one or two pots for testing, the application has to be re compiled. Is this true? I have the MB64E application installed....
  4. I want to test my AIN however I only have a couple of pots i purchased simply for this reason, to test my AIN board before buying all 32 pots. Smash told me to use jumpers to clamp inputs A4 through A7 to ground on J5B of the core. It's done. So J5 of the AIN is connected to J5A of my Core and 3 pins of J6 to the other J6. I have +5 getting to pins 1 and 3 of the pot and ive moved pin 2 around on diff. inputs of the first multiplexer and i dont get any MIDI Out messages ??? Do I have to connect all 4 multiplexers and have all pots ocnnected in order to get to output something? My DIN board works fine!
  5. Unfortunately, i have already visited the site and I don't want to order anything from them. I would prefer to order from an american site... Like Mouser and Digi-Key but I don't know of any similar swtiches :(
  6. Hey I am in the process of experimenting with diferent components. I have a switch in front of me, don't remember where I got it from. It was extremely difficult to find. C&K MP01R02CBE (many configs. possible) http://www.ittcannon.com/media/pdf/switches/ckcorp/mptactil.pdf I couldn't find pictures of the C&K model I have an love, but these are Shanpu, and look similar: Do you know of any alternatives that are easily available and not too expensive?
  7. haha wow i never really knew that it was that dangerous. Anyhow, the gentleman from spectrumleds has guided me in the right direction, 3mm 80-100mcd diffused LED's. thanks for your help!
  8. I've read here on these boards that the ideal brightness for LEDs in our application is around 150nm. However, the LED's i want (spectrumleds on Ebay) have the following specs: 5mm Water Clear Lens 4,000-6,000 mcd (luminous intensity) 3.2 - 3.6 volts operating range 20° viewing angle Wavelength: 460-470nm Are these compatible with the DOUT board? Will I need additional resistors to use them safely (not burn them)? To lower brightness is not really a concern of mine, I like em bright!
  9. Burnt LED's and resistors were among the highlights of my college days :P I wouldn't do that at home :) I just installed a Febreeze Noticeables air freshner in here haha :P
  10. HOORAY!!! It works! Don't laugh, but my optocoupler was upside down, luckily no damage was done! It works, I got the Checksum Recieved after each block was recieved as well as the reboot at the end. Also, the whole upload process was faster, definitely 9 seconds. Anyhow, now i have to debug the LCD, the characters are a little awkward (though sometimes amusing :P My unit is "Beady" hehehehehe). Thanks for your help TK. I read the MIDI Troubleshooting page thoroughly and performed many of the checks that were mentionned on there :) It will definitely be a reference for me later on! EDIT: Fixed my LCD problem too! There was a short between two pins :) Damn a lot of progress was made today!
  11. It turns out that the Feedback feature unfortunately WAS enabled... which means that the problem lies elsewhere. What leads you to believe that " your core never response to a upload block (MIDI In of the core propably not working, or a problem with the MIDI Out of your computer)"? What part of my screenshot or LOG brought you to that conclusion?
  12. haha woops, I didn't fool around with the default settings in MIOS studio. The feedback feature was disabled by default. I will try again after lunch. Thanks a lot man I will let you know what happens :)
  13. Guys I was feeling really inovative last night at 3am, quite sleepy too. And made a special cable, to kinda bypass Smash's little slip-up with positioning of j6/j7 & j8/j9. I made a special ribbon cable (2 in one) in order to avoid using the SIL connectors and to basically do a cleaner job. I can't test it yet as I am having issues with my Core board (see my thread in Troubleshooting, my unit doesn't reboot after MIOS upload) but I tested my connections and it seems like it will work. Maybe my cabling is a little useless, but it was fun trying to figure shit out :) here are some photos that might help you understand what i did! keep in mind i am not using J7!

IIRC, there is supposed to be a reboot and then only two such messages should appear. Also I remember reading somehwere that the MIOS upload via MIDI should take 9 seconds. Mine takes longer... Any ideas?!
  15. I'm trying to get MIOS 1.8 uploaded to my new core. I am using MIOS studio, i constantly have MIDI I/O activity, I can upload it, and I recieve the "Upload process complete" at the end, however it doesn't reboot automatically, nor do I see the Ready on my LCD! What is wrong!?
  16. I may have taken a little risk last night and actually tried out my core with the LCD backlight, running off my 200mA transfo. No PIC and no other boards, just the core! And guess what!!! EVERYTHIGN WORKED FIRST SHOT! I figured out the test points before you posted your reply and had 5.0x volts where it was needed and around 8V on the Voltage Regulator which i assumed was fine. Anyhow at 1am i was delighted to see those black bars on my LCD! Regardless i didnt run it for a long time, just long enough to get really happy considering everything worked on the first shot. After supper i'm gonna go buy myself a propper 9V 500mA (or closest possible) PSU as well as some female IDC connectors to tidy shit up! Thanks for your reply :)
  17. I'm working on my unit right now. The DIN and CORE boards are both completely built and I am at a point where i want to powerup my Core board and see if I did a good job and that it works right. 1- However, I dont have the recommended power supply (7-10v, 500mA). What i DO have in front of me however is a 9v 200mA one. Can i use this to simply test my circuit without the LCD? 2- In the Troubleshooting FAQ, the person who wrote it mentions some pages here on ucapps regarding testing/measuring. I've looked and I can't find these pages! I want to make sure that my core board is operating fine with power (with or without lcd) without the PIC... i want to measure and test it at the necessary points! Thanks a lot !
  18. I recieved my order from Smash TV, in Canada, exactly a week after it was shipped. The packaging was great the new rev. boards look great. I am trying to get this thing together as quick as possible in my hours after work. I'm taking a break to post pictures of my progress so far! My core board is complete and so is my DIN board. Here are some photos:
  19. It doesnt bother me personally. I sent you an email via that form! I hope to hear from you soon!
  20. drin man.... you misunderstood everything. I'm simply trying to gather a bunch of info in one thread so that people like me, that are in the market for such parts, can read and learn from other people's past experiences! I will post my opinions shortly!
  21. Ok this thread will hopefully be both informative and entertaining. I want people to list their favorite components in a given category. For each category you should list the Best Bang for the Buck part (good for the money) and your Splurge choice (best component for those with an unlimited budget). You may also tell us what part you HATED and would never recommend. So, 1) Potentiometers: - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 2) Rotary encorders: - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 3) Momentary pushbuttons: - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 4) Illuminated momentary pushbuttons: - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 5) Faders: - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 6) Knobs (D taper): - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: 7) Knobs (round shaft): - Best bang for the Buck: - Splurge: - Shit: If you have other parts categories I should add to the list, let me know!
  22. Yeah I thought so. Thanks, check your PM's.
  23. Do i ground the chassis? I read it somehwere that it has to be done, but I don't understand why... the MBHP uses a wallwart (2 pin, no ground prong) so why ground the chassis?
  24. I need the AIN board for my pots and faders! I read that it is very important to ground the unused AIN busses from the IC's to prevent erratic behavior...
