Yea I've got a multimeter, i would most probably have to de solder some of these components to correctly meter them right?

Hi, I made a midibox late last year and it worked great for many months. However one day I sat down to get a mix going and it wouldn't turn on. I checked all the connections and soldering points, everything was good. After a little bit I decided to check the power and it turns out my power supply (all of a sudden, as it was not doing this before) was sending out too much voltage, So my guess is that it fried something. Now I am not as handy with electronics as most of you are, so I'm wondering if you guys will tell me which component is most likely broken. I believe it has to be in first few steps of power entering the core module. Also, any help on how to test the parts is welcome. Thanks for your help in advance. Ryan

You know... TOS, I made that mp3, I know its compressed to 320kbps. I don't really know why you are giving me a hard time about this. It's my perogative to host whatever I choose, and I don't consider a 320kbps mp3 as good as a wav, because its just not true. Can you perhaps stop changing the point of the thread to other topics, this thread is for people to listen to Inkwell's live set, not to comment on other sets I have hosted. Although I'm glad you took the time to listen and you like it, I am still only looking for comments on the one set. I realise there is fine tuning issues with the set, but we decided not to fine tune it and leave it how we played it live.

....Not really a lame excuse, more like a personal choice. If people had wanted mp3's of it I would have shown them the link. That mp3 was for another purpose.

Well the midi connection works just fine with the optocoupler out. So it would seem that the ltc module might be diminished. I think I am gonna have to look into enhancing the LTC module. Although I have no idea how to do this, I'm off to the forums to see if there's any info on it! thanks TK Ryan

So, I cannot get the Roland drivers to work at all, and I have no idea how to install the kawai drivers. It comes with no documentation and just a dll file. I dont know where to put it, the file appears to be an executable but whenever i double click it, it unzips it to a folder..... Anyways, so far no go. I think if putting the optocoupler back in will fix the jittery pots, then I will be able to use it, I just wont assign ableton to send information to it. However in the ucapps documentation it says that having both the optocoupler and the max232 stuffed will cause a short... if this is true then have I already shorted out my ltc module??? because I had both installed before when the box was powered up. I had tried the Roland drivers as well, but that was before I knew that the optocoupler was supposed to be removed. I'll try this again and post my results. If I leave in the optocoupler would this create a short?

So I have my optocoupler out of the core module and my max232 stuffed. I can load up MIOS studio and link the ports to the yamaha CBX driver, I receive information coming in from the box just fine. The ltc module ceases to communicate with the computer a few minutes into using it in ableton. The in and out led's still function but if I reload MIOS studio, The connection from the yamaha cbx driver to the MIOS IN port is now a dotted line. So it is unconnectable. A restart of the computer seems to fix this, and the communication stays constant so long as I am in MIOS Studio. I have done a few tests in ableton and MIOS studio. I found that the pots appear to all be switching channels during their rotations.... which never happened when I was using midi cables. I also found (in ableton) that If i do not assign the cbx driver output back into the midibox, the communication is not interrupted. It seems the problem originates as soon as ableton attempts to send midi information to my midibox, a few minutes after it tries doing this it freezes up and no information is sent either way. Leaving it with just the midi in is fine, but the pots are jittery as hell for some reason, and they were not jittery at all when I had it hooked up with midi cables (and the optocoupler in). It seems odd to me that I cannot see this jittering on my LCD display, it looks smooth and fine on the lcd. So, any help is welcome, as I currently have no idea what is happening. Note: I have been using the midibox with no problems when it is hooked up via midi cables, the modules that are installed are the core, LTC, AIN, LCD and DIN. When I was using it with the midi cables before I had left the MAX232 stuffed as well as the optocoupler, I only recently realised that I should remove the optocoupler if I wanted to use the midi to com connection. thanks, Ryan

It seemed to me like you would be able to do that. But oh well, I have heard of another solution, I can't quite remember the specifics right now, but I will look into it.

hmmm it would seem that my idea is out of my bounds, perhaps if someone else does it first then I might be able to implement it.

Is it possible to associate each pot that I have on my board with an led that gets brighter and dimmer depending on the value the pot is sending out. I am not sure if this is a hardware or a software thing, my knowledge in this area is limited. Thanks Ryan

Yes! I did it, and it works like a charm. Goddamn its beautiful. Incidently I have hooked up one button as well, and it works!. I am on my way to finishing this project, I will create a new thread when I am closer, and I will post all the pictures I have taken during the process, as well as my design document so that others may build it!. I will go in with the magnifying glass and check the second 4051's analogue lines for soldering errors. It would make sense for the error to be there. I have tested my wallwart across several places on the core module and found it to be a steady 5.7 v (i think). I will try and test it on the AIN to make sure it is receiving the same voltage. I had a thought just now, it might be stupid and wrong but thats what being a noob at this means! Do I have to clamp the unused Analogue inputs on the core to ground as well?? I'm using A0 right now, so that would mean A1-3. Anyways thanks for your suggestions I will get on that as soon as I get back home. Oh and if someone could answer my question about the DC input into the core that would help because I have had someone tell me that it would make my system unstable. Ryan

Ok so here's the deal, I have my MIOS uploaded, mb64 app is uploaded. I have hooked up the LCD and AIN to the core. I have only one pot hooked up right now, the problem is that even though I have clamped all open analogue lines to ground (I clamped three 4051's to ground before the IC 's so I wouldnt have to do all the analogue inputs, and I have the open lines on the first 4051 clamped) the LCD is still reading lots of information constantly from what appears to be mostly #16 and #15, although it sweeps down to others occasionally. I have checked and rechecked all the solderings and they look fine. I'm stumped! When I get home I'm gonna try switching out the 4051 with another to see if its damaged, but other than that I don't have a lot of options running through my mind. I was told that using a DC output wallwart into the core module could make it unstable and is perhaps causing this, Is this true?? and if yes what do I bypass in the circuit? Please help! I am on a tight deadline so any suggestions will be gratefully accepted. Thanks, Ryan

Thanks thorsten, It seems very odd though doesn't it? I literally didnt do anything different other then solder some wires to RX and Vss that went into empty breadboard connections, all of a sudden it works. Confusing. Im using a circuit test 9v -500mA center pos. Ok so I was attempting to do the Midi in Debug where you hook up a led to the Rx of the PIC into a 220 ohm resistor. I'm fairly certain I hooked it up wrong (i hadn't used a breadboard in a long time) anyways the point is that I tried to send the mios hex file to see if the led would light up and it produced this info, I do not know if it actually uploaded the MIOS successfully, even though it says it did. So here's my problem, I setup Mios Studio for the upload, device id 0, hex file is loaded, wait for upload request is checked. I press start and then power on my Core. It receives the upload request successfully then starts to upload a packet. Shortly after it receives another request and this is is where it all goes wrong. It continues to receive upload requests every 2 seconds and produces errors every time.
