    guys,

    i wrote the chief of ALBS Germany, B.S. yesterday, asking for assistance. I hope he will respond any time soon. I have no clue what they are up to, since the only thing I did was asking for an email with all the details confirmed. Might be that we dont get the highest priority in times of heavy workload, but honestly...I am begging for an Email for 3 weeks now...

    Kurz und knapp.

    Mehr Strom an der Basis des NPN Transitors = Mehr Strom durch die Collector - Emitter Strecke. (das Alles bis zu einer gewissen Grenze, sog. Sättigung)

    Heißt in dem Fall hier: Mehr Widerstand, weniger Strom an der Basis, weniger helles Display.

    Das reicht, auch wenn es bei 12V (was für SIDs willst Du verwenden?) knapp an das für den Sammich empfohlene Minimum an Stromstärke runtergeht (500mA). Evtl. über das nächst größere nachdenken, ist aber nicht zwingend erforderlich.

    Polarität? Wie meinst Du das? Das ist ein Gleichstrom-Netzteil. Da gibt es + und -. Das ist auch vollkommen richtig so. Dem Sammich aber auch egal, weil der hat sowieso einen

    Brückengleichrichter, der dafür sorgt, dass man gar nichts falsch anschließen kann. (=verpolungssicher)

    Habe Heute endlich eine Antwort von Greatec bekommen. Leider liegt die Mindestbestellmenge bei 250 Stck.

    Vom Preis steht nichts in der e-Mail nur, dass sie bis zu 30% Rabatt zum Marktpreis geben.

    Naja.... Habe mal bei Mouser nachgefragt. Die vertreiben Leucht-Encoder von Bourns. Kosten um die 2.50 Euro.

    Natürlich keine Blauen an Lager. Warte noch auf Antwort.

    Ok..Nils helped me with the application. Thx!

    Unfortunately the MIOS LCD Message transfer does not work. Everything else is fine. I can send an receive Sysex as well as midi notes with the MIOS Keyboard. Do i have to take care of something special or should that work without any settings? MB64e application is running on the box...

    could someone help me with a download of the predecessor of the actual MIOS Studio? I am looking for a version i can send a text command

    to a MIOS 8 application. Might be BETA 9_3 (not too sure though)

    Hi, been reading up on diy midi controllers for the past week and ive decided to give it a crack. Im a DJ and want to build a dj style midi mixer for my torq dj software. Is there a limit on inputs?

    Yes, there is. Depending on the application u use. Read about MB64(e).

    or can i use a few midiboxs and link them?

    Yes, that´s working. Needs some tweaks though.

    Can i have more than one ''brain''? Ive designed my mixer and i will need:

    - 201 Buttons

    - 39 knobs

    - 5 faders

    - 5 rotary encoders (endless pots)

    Buttons have a function. Knobs do not, besides they sit either on a encoder or a pot. So 39 Pots and 5 Encoders? Honestly spoken, i think the project is getting too big for a first project.

    - Headphone jack??

    Not possible unless you incorporate an audio signal path into your box.

    Is this doable? What do i need to get me started beside the obviouse (wire, soldering iron,etc,etc)

    It is doable, appears overkill for torque (at least to me). You need money, patience, the ability to read, some kind of enclosure, and a lot of stuff you dont think of before... :-)

    When you have bought your PICs from SmashTV, they came with an already preinstalled Mios as the sticker on the ICs suggests. That´s the reason why the display output "ready". Without Mios it would just have said nothink like it does now.

    So did you try to upload Mios or did you try to upload an application?

    The Message F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 means that your bootloader is fine and your pic is running.

    a lot of the ebay sids are broken or have broken filters. Most of the sellers aren´t aware of the fact that the sid isnt 100% working just because

    it makes any kind of sound. Trial and error ;)

    - Reicht ein 20€ Billig-Lötkolben aus? Alternativ könnte ich einen gebrauchten Weller Lötkolben kaufen aber ist das nötig? Kann es sein, dass die Temperaturregelung besser ist oder sind die Weller Lötkolben hauptsächlich nur in Punkto Langlebigkeit und Komfort besser?

    Das kommt drauf an, wie gut Du löten kannst. Es gibt Leute, die löten mit dem 20 Euro Dachrinnen-Brutzler alle ihre SMD Teile ohne jedwede Probleme, wohingegen andere es mit der 300 Euro Lötstation nicht auf die Reihe bringen. Da die IC´s der Sammich alle gesockelt sind, machst Du aber max. die Sockel kaputt. Du kannst mit einem ungeregelten Lörkolben Temp. und Leistung nur über die Dauer des "Dranhaltens" regulieren, mit ein wenig Gefühl sollte das aber klappen. Achte halt auf die Leistungsdaten und die Spitze...

    - Mit welcher Temperatur sollte ich löten? Das hängt wohl mit dem Lötzinn zusammen, dh. die Frage muß wohl lauten, mit wechen Lötzinn sollte ich arbeiten?

    ca. 350 Grad. Bei empfindlicheren Bauteilen weniger. Wichtig ist auch hier die Dauer. Lötzinn für daheim: Nur gutes altes verbleites. Bleifreies Zinn benötigt braucht deutlich höhere Temperaturen und geht nicht so leicht von der Hand.

    - Welche Dicke sollte die Lötspitze haben?

    1mm Bleistift ist gut für den Sammich. Es geht aber nat. auch 2mm square und dann mit der Ecke löten...

    - Wie kann ich als Anfänger SIDS testen? Kann ein defekter SID den sammichSID kaputt machen, dh. kann ich SIDS einfach im sammichSID Testen? (Filter testen, Osc etc.) Wenn nein, was dann? Eine Alternative wäre ein funktionierender C64 aber damit kenne ich mich nicht so wirklich aus (bin aber lernfähig). Ich könnte höchstens ein Spiel laden und hören was passiert aber das ist ja kein umfaßender Test. Es gibt doch Software Befehle, Pokes oder so, da kann man mit testen?

    Kannst Du im Sammich testen. Wenn er nicht geht, dann geht er nicht.

    - Macht es einen entscheidenen Unterschied punkto Zuverlässigkeit und Langlebigkeit, ob ich einen 8580 aus dem Jahr 1987 oder 1992 kaufe? Ich gebe mir gerade viel Mühe an möglichst neue ranzukommen. Und sind New Old Stock Chips in dieser Hinsicht am besten? Hatte mal gelesen, dass es besser sei einen gebrauchten zu Kaufen der schon eine gewisse Zeit überlebt hat, statt NOS Chips, die vielleicht nach ein paar Wochen kaputt gehen. Und generell, was ist die geschätze Lebensdauer, sagen wir von einem gut behandelten, 8580 Sid Chip? Kann ich davon ausgehen in 15 Jahren noch damit Musik zu machen (speziell mit Ersatzchip Vorrat)

    They look pretty cool.

    The problem though is that they are very expensive and that they must be ordered in multiples of 200, since they are not on stock (mouser)

    Price is 3,71€ p.p + VAT = 4,41€ when ordering one package of 200. When ordering a bigger amount like 1000 price drops

    to 2,97 + VAT = 3,53€ which still is a lot.

    I doubt many people would spend that much on rotary encoders only, even though you need only 15.

    This Bulk order would normally close today.

    At present the people at ALBS haven´t managed yet to confirm the price and the order in a written email (only by phone), even though I wrote two emails, called them nearly everyday during the last two weeks

    and got several promises that they would do it immediately.Honestly that is quite disappointing and it seems they a) have a very heavy workload b) dont really get things done. Either way i can´t and i wont send

    you an paypal invoice without a written price and avaibility statement by the company we plan to order.

    I´ll keep this bulk open till i got the confirmation and i will go on bothering them on a daily basis. I hope you understand that.

    erm one question...why didnt you use a pic core and a finished application like mb64(e) when you´re not able to program the core32 app needed? Blinded by teh shiny? unsure.gif

    Of course it might be someone starts right now and i hope you´ll get the help needed but honestly i think it is very unlikely to find an coding angel when code monkeys are fairly rare these days...
