  1. i learned that the voltage changes when you add it to a circuit :0+).. i was just wondering where you measure your 9VAC.. i think mine measure 11-12VAC before i connect it to the optimized psu circuit.. - joe
  2. thanks again..! i knew about the communication pdf but never about the 4-bit LCD, thanks anyway. the PIC seems to run fine as i only get one sysex msg after booting.. so i think its the LCD wire-ring but time will show.. thanks alot for you help:!
  3. when i first started out on that optimized psu.. i was abit naive and just soldered every thing up and hoped for the best.. this turned out not to be good so i started all over with a different mind. took small steps and confirmed them working every time..(i tested link, and voltage for every step) this turned out good for me.. dunno if this helps.. btw. did you check the voltage on the sockets before inserting the IC's as told in the: http://virtualorgan.com/virtualorgan/FileLib/Assembling_a_MIDIbox_Core.pdf they came out good? thats my thoughts best of luck - joe
  4. this is some good help. ! wow.. some confusing posts i got out there.. maybe just my state of mind today.! :/// i'll check out some of this.. btw. where did you read about the 4-bit LCD mode? i totally missed this one.. thanks a million.! - joe
  5. i hope it makes sense what im asking.. i guess im all confused about.. theres no MIOS on my PIC.. ???
  6. ok i see.. but there is a few ways to upload a MIOS i see and it kinda all depends on the current state of my PIC and since i thought it held the bootloader 1.2 and MIOS 1.9F.. but i have no MIOS if SPL you got it figured right? i assume.. - then how do i know witch version of the boot loader is on my PIC so i can chose the right upload method. should i just look for the upload request from the boot loader and assume that its version 1.2b? also i read the midi trouble shooting page to be for a core with a PIC18F452, and i have a PIC18F4685.. does this have anything to say? did i buy the wrong PIC? thanks again - joe
  7. oh. ! this is very nice and a bit strange as i thought i bought a pre programmed pic from the smashTV. but i'll look into uploading a new MIOS.. but then was it possible i have received a PIC with only the bootloader? .. i cant just upload a MIOS to a blank PIC could i ? well .. speaking with out any read up.. ill go read some now.. thanks alot.! this is what the label on my PIC says: - joe
  8. Hi again.. i started up my core today and this is what it looks like.. i get long line of black squares of not working core module on my LCD? i tried out the current drain mA measuring and i get a strange constant 38.6-8mA? thru the hole process.. from connecting power to waiting about some time.. does any one know what im to do from here?.. should take the pic out and start from there?.. all my measuring before inserting seemed fine and i was very gentle trying not to ttouch any pins on the pic while inserting.. well.. i followed the assemble a core pfd... im a little lost.. :0( - joe
  9. auch, thank you so much...!! i know you just saved me a ton of time about the pin layout on my LCD..! here i understand that the [K/C] is minus? - and then the [A] is obviously + then.. but maybe you've got a word for google so i could maybe read up on this? just curious.. any how thanks alot. !! this project is awesome.. ! im thrilled
  10. Hi again,, i have a little question about wire-ring my LCD to the core.. i have a WM-C2002M LCD - http://pdfserv.datasheetpro.net/ZETTLERElectronics/WM-C2002M.pdf the pin connections on my LCD read like this and here's the core connections 1. it seems like i have two [DB2] and no [DB4]... what am i to do about this? do i connection the 2nd [DB2] to the [D4] on the core or do i not connect it at all? 2. on there core i read [b+ led] and [b- led] and on my LCD i read [LED A] and [LED K] i assume these are the once to be connected, but how do i know witch one on my LCD is the + and -? 3. just a little safety things.. this is the back side of my LCD and i just wanted to be sure i read it right according to the data sheet,, can anyone confirm my read? thanks a million. ! - joe
  11. :0) im glad.: ! i hope to help some one my self one day . .!
  12. thats just what i need thank you .. !
  13. hi, i might aswell make my own thread with the questions i might have now and in the future and maybe some postings about my process.. oiy here goes my first question,, i dont seem to be able to find any documentation on how to wire a midi jack like the one i have.. this maybe lack of knowledge on what to put in my search strings? because im very new to electronics, but i've bin around and have no luck finding anything.. can any one draw an tell or link me up? thanks alot - joe
  14. now i agree with both of you.. today it finally work out for me.. !! and very many thank you for your answers to my questions.:!! this is an awesome project.. and i learn alot .! thanks again.. \o/? waiiyy..
  15. yes that is what makes the most sense to me aswell .. but i guess im afraid every thing will blow up if i try it wrong .. ugh !! but i read in the data sheet .. "making it essentially indestructible" wow.. ! can anyone confirm, hint, say anything?
  16. Hi there again.. im a little confused here.. i look at the datasheet for my L78S09CV voltage regulator, and how the 1,2,3 pins is set and it looks like pin 3 is ground and on the optimized psu circuit pin 3 is the 14vDC output? can any one help me about how to connect my voltage regulator? im way to noobish to make the decision that i should move away from what the circuit tells me or what so ever.. :0) here is the datasheet ive bin looking at http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/SGSThomsonMicroelectronics/mXwqxq.pdf -joe
  17. thanks again... i guess it makes no difference where the power comes from.. - joe
  18. ok thanks alot zgba, this cleared out a few things.. i fund one power supply at with the output specs like this: 9vAC ~ 1.1A 9.9VA what is that [9.9VA]? - but any how.. i measure the output to be 11.1vAC and i connected it to the bridge witch gave me 9.74vDC output. so i guess my c64 psu is crap.. if i were to make a it work just for now, could i then go for a two psu connected? one being the old c64 psu for the 5vDC and the other new one for the 9vAC? - and then build the same circuit? thanks again for your help.. ! - joe
  19. yeah thats a good idea, i that from the start aswell. the multimeter gives 8-9vAC on the pin 1 and 7... and then i get the 5vDC on the 3 and 4 pin. i switch to checking every thing now before i mount it... so i basicly started all over..(i guess it was abit naive to solder every thing up and hope for the best) i have a fine connection thru the switch and then i connect it to the bridge. 8-9vAC connected to the bridge i get 1.59vDC out the bridge(i tried the bridge i pulled off my circuit and a brand new one and its the same 1.59vDC on both). is the 8-9vAC too low for my psu? and whats up with my bridge? am i getting the right result in DC voltage output? - joe
  20. wow this looks like we are stock with the same kind of trouble.. im building the same optimized_psu mine is acting almost the same way.. and i have no/limited knowledge like you.. its very annoying :0) mine psu an c64-II psu makes the same kinda random voltage output from the supposed 9vAC output.. and i also get AC voltage on the other side of the bridge.. ://
  21. thank you Nils.. this is very helpfull. ! this might be my bridge that is broken or wrong-wired.. the vDC on the bridge -/+ output gives me 0.56vDC just under one volt.?= thats not good... (this i with the strange random right now at 5vAC input on the two ~~) and across pin 2 and 3 on the regulator then gives me the 0.0vDC strangely enough my bridge outputs about 5vAC... here is how i have wired it. ?¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| | KBP208 | | + AC - | | | ¯//¯//¯¯¯\\¯\\ <- the two outer legs is output right? * * * * * * <- 9vAC output connected here from the C64-II psu
  22. thank you very much kurt.. you have great eyes for spotting that one.. and it seems to work.. (the vertical wire was missing. !!) and then not really.. i now get around only 5vDC from the 3pin of the voltage regulator.. can this be a crazy chose of component? - and then im still confused about the low AC voltage in the circuit before it hits the voltage regulator..? is it normal that this old PSU is acting random voltage on the 9vAC output? and thanks for a quick reply.. next time i will go over the circuit even :0( thanks, - Joe
  23. Hi there im new around here.. ! :D I have bin looking at this MB project for a few years and now final started on a MBSIDv2 minimum stereo setup. i have some trouble with the optimized PSU.. i will try to explain my self.. im kinda new to electronics but i find it very exciting and i like to read and learn.. i hope some of you can help me out here.. as im a little lost.. :-[ I think this might be a problem with the components I chose to build this circuit.. here is my part list: KBP208 bridge instead of the B40C800 L78S09CV instead of the 7809 voltage regulator 2x 2200uF 50v instead of the 2200uf/25v and 16v u1K63 instead of the 100nf u33K63 instead of the 330nf then im using the original power switch from an C64-II the power plug connector and the psu from this C64-II My trouble is that this not working .. :/// Im kinda noobish in all this but i've made some multimetering and this is my result so... i've checked the circuit many times for any shorts or mis-wire-ring but this does not seem to be the problem.. so my mind is on wrong components.. well any thoughts and guides to were i go from here is very welcome... and i hope this makes any sens at all.. let me know.. - Joe
