  1. That was my guess: 100+ LEDs and only 16 lines feeding them I suspected a multiplexing type of solution but didn't want to stick my neck out :) Thanks Peter.
  2. The LEDs on my MB6582 flicker ever so slightly. Just enough to notice, not enough to be annoying. I'm using bright ones (white) and have installed headers so I can change the current limiting resistors so suit the brightness. I've used 10K ones which is just nice and at first I wondered if they were maybe too low so I swapped a couple for 3K which, while brighter, still exhibited the flicker. In every other respect the machine operates normally. Is it normal? If not, does anyone have any suggestions of where to start testing? Thanks, Neil
  3. After saying that, it was still failing to upload. Picked up a second-hand M-Audio MIDIsport 2x2 and it now works like a charm. Damn, I lost me a fair chunk of debugging time and did a lot of fretting and it turned out to be my MIDI interface!
  4. It turned out to be the fact that at that point I'd still not managed to upload MIOS properly. I have now and the LCD is working fine
  5. Anyone?
  6. Well, after some fiddling with the numerous port settings on the Novation I think I managed to upload the firmware. Having said that, it's still just showing a blank LCD so I guess something is still amiss, possibly related to this:
  7. I have a question regarding the pin numbering of J15 on Rev 2 boards (only saying that in case it's relevant - I don't have a Rev 1 to compare) The information and Jim's PDF suggest that the numbering of the pins on J15 goes in a left-right sequence: 1 - 2 3 - 4 5 - 6 ....... 15 - 16 whereas on the PCB the pins have numbers on them, #1 being the pin closest to the top-right of the core PIC then #8 being the corner below that, #9 being opposite and #16 in the opposite corner: 1 9 ... ... 8 16 which doesn't match up with the pins show in Jim's PDF. Which is the right pin layout for J15 (Rev2)? Jim's PDF or the unusual numbering system suggested on the board printing? Thanks, Neil (Oh, yeah, of course, I followed Jim's wiring and I'm just getting two rows of white squares on my LCD, hence the question. The contrast and brightness trimmers work so something is connected up right  )
  8. I'm at the stage now where I'm trying to upload the MIOS core (1.9g) to the master core of my MB6582 1) MIOS Studio is connecting OK and I'm getting the message that the core has booted successfully. 2) In the Receive window (MIOS Studio) I'm getting a constant stream of sysex messages: [1953650.223] f0 00 00 7e 40 00 0e 0b 01 f7 [1953650.227] f0 00 00 7e 40 00 01 f7 repeated over and over. 3) Uploading fails with error message: Upload aborted due to error #11: MIDI IN Overrun Error 4) I've gone through the MIDI troubleshooting guide, specifically noting TESTCORE_10 regarding this sysex overflow issue and there are no shorts between the TX and RX lines on the PIC. 5) If I disconnect the MIDI IN on the MB6582 side I get the same sysex messages appearing in MIOS Receive window but this time there at a rate of about 1 per second instead of the flood that I get with MIDI IN and OUT connected. 6) I am using a Novation 49SL MkII which I note seems to be one of the 'blacklisted' devices. I'm at a point where I've exhausted checks on the board and I think the next step is to try another MIDI interface. This would mean buying one so I'm posting in the hope that someone can either recognise the symptoms and say 'Yep, definitely the MIDI interface' or alternative suggest something else to try? Thanks, Neil
  9. Thanks nils. I sent him an email but he hasn't replied so far. I will wait patiently. Neil
  10. Does anyone have SVG files for the sammichFM case? I have the sammichSID ones but I'm wanting to make a custom case for my FM. I'd take EPS or PDF at a push but SVG is best :) Cheers, Neil
