Been given a new toy (Korg Micro-preset M-500 SP)

I've just been given a Korg micro-preset M-500 SP. I don't know much about it, only that it's fairly low end... Not many knobs, not even a decay and no polyphoney. Apparently it needs a little tap to turn it on so sounds like a bad joint, I've not had this problem yet. I've been told I'm not allowed to modify it. Has anybody had experience of these synths? The modulation depth slider doesn't seem to do anything at all, it could be that i'm using it wrong so would appreciate some ffedback on this. I think it may be a bad pot/connection but am a bit reluctant to take it to pieces as it's mains voltage. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

They're great little things, cheesy but fun. Check out the sound on sound article, that will give you some insight as to how it works, apparently it's not all that straightforward.
