Newbie SID-problem

Hi All  :)

I've got a problem with my SID-module.

I just assembled my core and SID- module. I took my new friend , the multimeter, and tested the two boards. The core-module seemed to be ok, but my SID-module didn't give the 5 V at the IC 2 and IC 3.

No power at all at these IC-sockets, the SID-socket gave a nice 5 V though.

Does anyone know what could be the source of this problem?

Which of the J2 pins should receive the 5 Volts from the core-module?

Thanx,

Hi Che,

the power supply input pins for the +5V voltage domain are J2:Vs (ground) and J2:Vc (+5V). When you follow these tracks from the core module, to the SID module, to IC2 and IC3, with the probes of your multimeter you should be able to find the error

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Thanx for the reply TK,

I feel o so stupid! :-[ Are the pins of the ic 2 and ic 3 numbered in this way?

1 *|-----|* 16

2 *|      |* 15

3 *|  i   |* 14

4 *|  c   |* 13

5 *|  2  |* 12

6 *|      |* 11

7 *|      |* 10

8 *|___|* 9

If so… sorry to have wasted your precious time TK! Then there is nothing wrong with my sid-module, I’m just Stupid.

I haven't started my midibox yet but I must admit I once thought for a year that my midi keyboard wasn't working because I didn't know the INs needed to be connected to the OUTs :)

  • 2 weeks later...

thanx for your support ;)

Everything is soldered together and I've got it all in a test-setup, with one wall adapter.

Everything is ok, except the voltage between pin IC1:Vdd(28) and IC1:Vss(14) - it must be 12V for the 6581 SID- But it's 11,80!

Does it matter?

Che
