Hey, I'm about to take the plunge and buy both the CORE and SID kits. My question is what PIC microcontroller should I have included with the CORE kit?  Also, for those that already have an SID built how much does it rely on computer and the programs like MIDI SID patch editor?  Finally, how much different are the SID V1 and V2?  Thanks for the help.

Depends on what version you'll build. 18F452 for the v1, 18F4685 for the v2.

Depends on what Control Surface you build. If you have a full CS you can easily go without any patch editor. If you have a minimal CS you can still do everything without a patch editor, but it's a pain. If you don't have a CS at all, you'll need the patch editor ;)

Finally, how much different are the SID V1 and V2?

A lot. In fact so much, that you most likely want to build a v2. Just read the info on ucapps.de and the differences will bevome obvious. Just listening to the sample sounds should probably do the trick as well.
