My camera is not great, it makes everything look crap  ;)  but here's a few shots.

It's got that old timer feel going on, all hand done with inadequate tools :)

I still want to add global feedback (out -> in) as mentioned in this forum, wooden ends and a base cover, but these aren't vital. The display is actually blue EL, but the flash made this not show. Used sockets for switching caps, but I had some polystyrene 470pF (old 6581 inside) and these sound nice.

-- You can just see in the above picture that the A3k sampler is modded with blue LED's where possible..

-- I intend to replace the blue EL backlight with a strip of Red EL tape from a PC modding kit.

-- That should work nicely, as the blue doesn't really go.

-- Also, replace the encoder knob with a flatter, wider job at some point.

Thanks for looking.

Soon I shall hopefully build the FM synth, nothing like this though (more of a white theme)

Lovely!!

I changed the tag to size the pics. I don't like to edit other people's posts, but I don't see the sense in leaving pretty pictures obscured. This is what the tag looks like for example:

Now to move it to midibox of the week!!

This is my first MidiBox, but I have made guitar amps (in leather too) and various other FX and PIC based midi circuits. I've left one extra socket hole at the back so it could accommodate another SID.

The case is the 'breadbox' C64 cut'n'shut and was originally going to be resprayed and made into the full control surface version as I'd cut out the keyboard area and patched in some white plastic sheet (you can see in photos)

But I got impatient to finish this one. It can either be a lot of work, or quickly become expensive..

It does sound very good, slightly, if not exceedingly, dirty ;)

The FB-01 I bought only weeks ago on ebay for just over £10uk.

I do like it. It's not as limited as it first appears, once you get an editor on the go.

It's a bit grubby and needed some TLC, but is working fine now, needing only a few parts renewed in the PSU (but these can wait too)

I bought it because it uses the same FM chip as an early Roland FM synth I used to have for a brief time (D-5 I think) and liked some of the delayed and chorus simple FM sounds that produced. Of course the FB-01 has no FX but, with the A3k sampler above it, it's tempting just to sample the FB-01 Synth and layer up monster sounds anyway. Which is all I've done with it so far :)

i actually haven't even tried to edit any of the patches yet!  what are you using for an editor?  i don't believe mine came with a sysex program for doing such a thing... :'(  any chance i could get a copy of that?

anyway, sorry for derailing the thread, great job on the MBSID!
