buhler Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 hey guys, this shop is right down the road from my house and i thought i might give this transformer a shot. i am pretty intimidated by the PSU part of this build. :-[ anyhow, will this transformer work? thanks.[edit] looking at the pictures, i'd probably actually want this one...?
nebula Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 The second one is 24V centre-tapped, which is likely ideal for + 12V and - 12V. Since you're wiring mains-level AC to the other side, take precautions! Use some heat-shrinkable tubing to go over those connections so that you don't give yourself a nasty jolt when you're poking around with the power on. A fuse inside your enclosure would probably be a good idea here. Anything from a 1 amp to 5 amp AGC fuse will protect you from a dead short.
buhler Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 thanks neb! i'll be back with fuse questions later. going to buy that transformer!
stryd_one Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 don't give yourself a nasty jolt when you're poking around with the power on.Better still, turn the mains off when you're anywhere near it ;)
nebula Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Better still, turn the mains off when you're anywhere near it ;)Where's the fun in that?
stryd_one Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 True. Try testing the mains power on your tongue, or kissing soldering irons, for super fun good times.Kids: These toys may cause harm or death. Please test them on your parents before use.
