meterbridge for mixing desk and mtc display number strip

im hoping someone can help me.

i have a soundcraft spirit studio i bought quite cheap its the 24channel version. now on the output section there are a series of leds that show the grouped db levels.

however what would be good is individual channel db level leds similar to a meter bridge, so i have a question, is it possible to build a meter bridge each channel having 16 leds the same as the grp output leds. and then build a board that allows them to linked to each channel inside the mixer thereby allowing the levels to be shown on the meterbridge.

so to take a feed from the output stage of the channels before being switched into the gropus, to the relative channel input for the diy meterbridge? i was thinking could i use this module from cpc.farnell http://cpc.farnell.com/velleman-kit/80-1520/k4304-mono-led-vu-meter/dp/HK00620 and use the output from the pre group switch fed into this by way of a link? one for each of the 24 channels thereby making a led meterbridge.?? or even use this kit from cebek http://img.icnea.net/Forum/E6001/ftp/VM-21_English_Esp.pdf

i also would like to make a stand alone mtc display, just a strip of number display components to make an mtc display, and connect it via midi, because i could also fit this into the meter bridge as well. as built by the guy who made the traktorizer shown here http://mte.bplaced.net/Hardware-Projects/LNRV-Control/mtc4.jpg.'>http://mte.bplaced.net/Hardware-Projects/LNRV-Control/mtc4.jpg. i have emailed the guy who runs this website http://mte.bplaced.net/ and i am hoping for a reply soon.

any suggestions most welcome.

UPDATE: can i build a meterbridge with a midi interface that will display the meterbridge levels by recieving midi data from the daw software im using (digital performer 6) and thenthe transmitted data bounces the leds per channel/track as shown on the screen? i think that would be a much easier way of doing it than attatching to channels in the mixer itself.

so is it possible ?? a midi fed meterbridge with multiple leds say 16 vertical per track/channel with room to add more if i use more channels in the software?

thanks

simon

Welcome aboard ssp :)

Well there are two very different topics here...

The first is an analog meterbridge, and yes such a thing is possible but being analog audio this is probably not the best forum for advice (although several midiboxers know about this stuff I'm sure)

As for a midi meterbridge yes that's entirely possible. Of course you are limited to the bandwidth of MIDI, and by DP's ability to send the levels as MIDI... but if you can get DP to do that, a midibox app could certainly be written to convert that data into lit LEDs.

You should probably start by looking at the code examples on ucapps for lighting a LED (you'll need some C programming skills but you can always learn it if you don't know it already), and at the DP manual to find out about how to send the data.

HTH!
