Echopraxia
Hello everybody,I got my mbfm to play sounds today finally. These sounds take me back.I had to replace the ymf262 and directly solder some of its wires to j2 pins because first only the test tone was working but now it works. The only problem is that when I play something in my computer sequencer I don't get every note that is being played on the sequencer. I get like 3 notes playing then 2 don't play then 3 notes play then 2 don't and so on. Is it a polyphony mono legato thing? when I play the keys sequentially I get two notes that can sound then go down and the next two keys will not sound, then go down and the next two keys will sound and so on. Is it a short some where. I have the 18f452 with v1.9f. Any help would be appreciated. I attached an mp3 of an old mega man midi file playing the mbfm.Regards, echombfm test metalman.mp3mbfm test metalman.mp3
Echopraxia
I also attached what the song is like with vsts to verify I am not going crazy. It does play a lot more of notes.vst test metalman.mp3vst test metalman.mp3
Echopraxia
I am curious if its the crystal that is causing the midi notes to miss/lag or the yac 512s? It wouldn't be the tl074s right?
lead bromide
Are you listening to the audio in stereo or mono? Something like that happened on my MB-6582 with a polyphonic patch; the notes would play two on the right channel and then the next two on the left channel or something to that extent. I was listening to it in mono, so I could only hear half of the notes.
Echopraxia
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried running in stereo with the same problem. Upon further testing to timing is solid. The weird thing is that at first one note would play then the next wouldn't then the next would and so on. I attached an audio example of a simple bar of 16 steps that should play 16 notes but only plays 8 notes and the second part of the audio file should play 8 notes but only plays 4. Now it does something else in that the first two notes should play then three notes would not play and then two more notes would play then 3 more would not. Sounds like a short or bad chip.Any help would be appreciated.Regards, echo
Echopraxia
Well I am still trying to trouble shoot this issue of not having all notes playing. I seem to get different variations of the problem each time I fire up the synth. I am getting all 5v voltages from the interconnection test checking each pin on the ymf chip one by one. The ground pin is good as well. What about the rd pin #7? Should this be getting 5 volts? As of now I am not because it was a pin that the solder pad come off from desoldering previous. Would this note behaviour happen because of this missing 5v? Are there any apps or methods out there that can help me check the other pins. the only other ones would be the clocks, do and smp pins.Regards, echo
