HUD Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 If I were to make a midibox devoted entirely to envelope generators (limited to ADSR's), such as those found in the analog toolbox or sidstation software, how many might I expect to make? Let's take 1ms update rate as a given, 16 or more with the new core? I understand that the analog output module might be the limitation in this example, but i'd be more than willing to build two of the better dacs and even multiplex their outputs (with s/h's, buffers, etc) to get double the cv's out. The analog and layout side of things does not worry me, so much as the software side. So, what do you think? How many decent (considering millisecond update rate) envelopes can be produced? Quote
nILS Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 So, what do you think? How many decent (considering millisecond update rate) envelopes can be produced?Short answer: Lots.Long answer: 90 MIPS -> 90,000,000 instructions per second -> 90,000 instructions @ 1kHz. Semi-random very pessismistic guess per ADSR is 1000 instructions -> 90 ADSRs. Quote
