lazydog
hello all, newbie post, and not sure if i have the right forum section: i picked up a QuasiMidi 309 Rave-o-lution on ebay, (fully expanded) and after a bit of use, identified some things that could be better, eg: with the firmware.(here v3.0) nobody seems to know much about the sourcecode, and it seems like quasimidi folded before certain promised updates happened. would it be a viable project, to try to add things like ? eg: midi CC# out re-mapping ( i have a list of things i noted, can post later) i have no skills regarding this, but quite a few users out there might like to see this box improved. thanks for any interest, i've asked around on a few forums, but not much response so far, so thought this could be a good place to ask. Without the source code it would be very difficult to make improvements.
lazydog
ok. if i can hustle the sourcecode from the manufs somehow, does it get any more feasible/easier? i was thinking the eeprom can maybe be hacked and the data worked on from there. a bit naive perhaps. i'm just going on what i read on forum about people reading eeproms/firmware edits/bootloaders etc. (viz x0x forum) so far, i'm told at quasimidi.eu that the source is 'no longer available'. not sure exactly what that means, and have not pressed the issue so far. overall, the interface + layout isn't bad, but i've been surprised by some of the limitations i found in functions. it's a big piece of kit, and when you consider what those little yammy QY things can do, etc etc... for example, untill the v3 firmware, you couldn't copy the core pattern unit, the 'motif' (eg: the single voice pattern, as opposed to the assembled pattern of all voices playing). that was surprising. technobreath
Not to be a killjoy here, but this community mostly tries to protect the mbhp from non-licenced use. Hacking a locked source code from the eeprom is just what it sounds, a licence breech... If I were the inventor of the original code I would not be happy if someone snatched it from me. The MCUs also tend to have protection against such hacking, so for the hacking, no help from here. If you get permission from owner, that is a whole different thing, but if the source is locked, it is not likely for u to hava any luck with that. So. Welcome to the forums, but please do not come here to get help stealing source code, that just aint right... But you are free to look around ucapps.de and see what the mbhp is good for. Maybe u find something u can build to suite ur own needs, then sell the quasi... Hehe.

Hehe. no no noooooo...i wasn't at all talking about breaching rights etc. ! ;) but thanks for pointing out the legality of the matter. in fact, it'd be good to contact the original guys from quasimidi and get them to help out. i already asked at the support page, but no joy, and i don't want to hassle the guy too much, lol.. this is very much a general enquiry re feasability. and interest...
