SID dead?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have two 6581s: the first one seems to be playing ok. If i switch chips and try the second one, i only get an extremely faint signal, and i guess what i hear is the oscillator running (keeps playing after note off, disappears when changing patch)?

Does that mean... it's gone to SID heaven?

:'(

update:

Seems it's pretty dead alright...

I tried running audio through the filters and i get lots of pots 'n' cracks and random behaviour if i run the Resonance from 0 to 127. Also i only hear output going through the fillters when "Chn" is set to 123, regardless of the "Ext" setting...

It could not be the caps, can it? I'm using the recommended 470pF...

No, the caps cannot be the reason for this behaviour.

You hear the oscillator running in background - thats the known 6581 SID bug. But you don't hear the main sound, and this is strange. It really seems that the internal circuit is affected (maybe between oscillators and the amplifier stage).

Best Regards, Thorsten.
