Big project for big biginner !

Hello everyone!
 
firstly I'am sory for my English more than basic , I hope you understand me ..
 
I discovered this forum there about three weeks , until then I did not know it was possible to create my own midi controller ! So I decided to try : p
 
I use Ableton Live as DJ , I always wanted to create me a big fat controller !
Only little problem, I do not know anything about electronic or programming ..
I did some welding at school a long time ago but that's it : p
 
I guess it's like anything, with time and patience anything is possible ... Finally, I hope, we'll see.
 
I set a budget a maximum price of 1000 euros.
My project is to create a Fat Controller with 18 vertical slices ,
16 slices each with 5 potentiometers and 14 illuminated pads (the leds color would fit the colors of ableton live clips) (every slice would represent an Ableton set with his clips.. )
+ 2 slices of 24 smaller pads to select ableton sets and load them into the 16 slices.
by making a calculation , my controller would have 80 potentiometers & 272 light pads ...
 
By browsing in the forum I saw that to create the controller, it requires several modules ( CORE, AIN , DIN, ... )
 
If I understand the system , the base is the CORE module (connected by USB to the computer ), on which are welded DIN modules ( which manages the " switches " ) , AIN (which allows you to manage potentiometers ) , and DOUT (which manages the LEDs ) .
 
My questions are:
 
1: Does one core module can handle this number of pads and potentiometers ? and if so what model?
 
2: If not , is it possible to connect several CORE modules together to get there?
 
3: What are the models that correspond to my project?
 
I may be all wrong , if that's the case I 'm sorry .. this is really something new for me, but that takes me heart!

hi

 

you have the CORE8 this core can handle 128 Midi event so 128buttons or 64button and 64Pots or 64Encoder with Ledring.

 

you also have the LPC Core. this core can handle 2048 Midi events.

you can add

2048 Buttons and leds (RGB leds)

128Pots

32Moterfaders.

 

but i would recommend the LPC core.

as i also know nothing about electronics but Midibox realy learned me allot about elecrontics. but if you buy everthing form smashTV you can get realy nice PCB's with all the Componets you need. and you just need to follow the PDF from Ucapps..

also the devolper made a Realy easy to understand Syntax, to program your LPC.

So if i understand, i just need to buy the LPC Core and the buttons & potentiometers ? (if it can handle 2048 midi events i don't need to buy DIN/AIN/DOUT modules right ? ) 

In the midibox shop i saw the "Core LPC17 Module PCB" & the "Core LPC17 Parts Kit". This is what I have to buy the base for my project?

After welded parts kits to pcb, buttons can connect directly to the core?

:rolleyes:  no you still need the DIN/DOUT/AINSER64 or AINSER8

 

Only the CORE8 support 8 OR 16) Shiftregister to get 128 Button/Led or 64encoder.

 

the LPC supports 32 Shiftregister

to connect 256 Button/led direct to the Shiftregister or.

16x16 = 256 x8 = 2048 Button/Led Matrix...

 

1x DIN/DOUT = 4x Shiftregister (32 I/O)

 

and to make it more clear..

you can connnect 32 (74HC165) Shiftregisters for Buttons/Encoders.

AND 32 (74HC595) shiftregisters for LED/Ledrings, 7Segment led displays.

and I think I'm on the right way.

I can weld on each DIN module several "serial registers" 74HC165 (up to 4?).
it is the same for DOUT modules (up to 4 "serial registers" 74HC595).
And for the AINSER64, I do not understand how many potentiometers I can connect but I guess it is similar...

One time the modules mounted and interconnected, does the buttons/encoders/leds/potentiometers connect directly to the "serial register"?

only For a Button Matrix you need both Shiftrigisters , 74HC165 and 74HC595

And a Led matrix needs only the 74HC595.

and for the Pots you can use 2 differnt modules.

the AINSER64 to connect 64Pots/Faders. 2 can be Cascade to get 127 Analog Inputs.

or the AINSER8 to cennect 8 pots/faders. 2 can be cascade to get 16 Analog inputs

YES!!

 

only is you use the Matix you need to Read carefull the instructions on the pages as they need some extra components.. or you need to Leave some Componets..

I think I'll start without using the Matrix to start more easily.
 
Then let's go I start: p! I will buy everything I need for my project this week!
 
I changed my project so that it has 160 buttons, 40 potentiometers and 200 LEDs (a led under each button and each potentiometers).
 
If i am right, All of my purchases must be:
 
- One "Core module PCB LPC17" (http://www.midibox-shop.com/buy.html)

- Five "DIN Kit + PCB" (http://www.midibox-shop.com/buy.html)

Does all the kits contain the maximum number of shift registers?
 
In terms of connecting cables between the modules, I only have to use the ribbon cable?

Yes this seems OK!

 

But Why would like to have one LED for each POTS...

And Why 2x AINSER64, if you only like to have 40 pots (1x AINSER 64 can handle 64 pots)

 

Also i would recommend to get a LCD screen this can be very usefull for troubleshooting..

Yes you only need the Ribbon Cable, with the IDC Connectors..

10Pin ribbon cable for the Modules and the 16Pin Ribbon cable for the LCD screen.

 

 

Does all the kits contain the maximum number of shift registers?

as you see on the webpage "Includes PCB and all parts that mount directly to the board"

so Yes you get the PCB + ALL the parts..

 

 

And you also need to have a Powersupply 12V 500mA DC should be Oke..

and you need a SD card, i recommend to use a SD adaptor and put a Small Micro SD into it so you can still remove the Micro SD and put it in you PC if things realy goes wrong..
