I found a MAX525 for less than half of the usual price, but the just one (BCPP+ version). My question was - would it be enough to make a 4-channel AOUT, or does it only work with 2? Can the 2 dacs be different versions?

The ucapps page says you need 2...

While we at it - is AOUT still worth building, or is AOUT_NG the way to go? Yes, I do want the best precision for VCOs - but does AOUT really outperform NG in real world?

I see no reason while this should not work. Maybe someone can confirm this though. My Aout is burried under pcbs in my synth so i can´t just pull a chip.

I have not yet tried the AOUT_NG. I assume it is good enough. The VCOs we want to controll are propably the limiting factor when it comes to tuning...

Yes, I bet VCOs would be less stable than a 12bit DAC (I'm building YUsynth VCOs btw).

Makes it hard to decide... I do want the best, but don't want to pay extra for an overkill either.

Considering the price of a commercial MIDI to CV I would pay for the  second DAC  .

Anyway I think it will work with one MAX too

Yes, the prices for comparable commercial products are just insane.

Anyway, I bought the DAC - worst case scenario I'll just buy an other one for 30 euro.  :ahappy: I'll need 8 CVs for my modular anyway.
