Finally, I'm ready!!

I'm finally ready to build the MB16E, a pretty basic thing with 16 encoders and maybe the LCD, and USB, but I have a few questions.  I have 16 encoders soldered and ready to go thanks to D2K, I'm odering the core module kit, the DIN4x kit, the USB kit, maybe the LTC kit, and I think that's it.

The questions are:

1.  If I don't do the USB option, I need the LTC right?  One or the other?

2.  If I order the PIC preprogrammed with the bootstrap loader, do I need to burn anything else such that I would need to make the JDM?  And I'm not really sure about what the header should be.

3.  Am I basically able to just hook up the LCD to the core via J15?  or is there more to it?

4.  If I want to add buttons later on I can just build another DIN4x and chain it to the first?

5.  Am I forgetting anything obvious?

This is exciting!  YEAH!

Thanks,

jimminy

You're almost right !

1.) I think you only can use USB or LTC. But if you connect your box via Midi you don't need LTC or USB

2.) With bootstrap on the PIC you can program everything via MIDI-OX. You don't need a JDM. What do you mean with header ? Do you mean the ID ? - You don't have to care about the ID, if you just use one CORE with a LCD and MIDI. If you want to use a LTC (serial communication) you have to change the ID.

Just take a look at www.ucapps.de, especially the MIOS / Bootstrap Loader section. There it is explained.

3.) Just plug it ! ;D

4.) You're right

5.) Don't know. One Tip: Read a little more in detail the ucapps - Pages.

Hope this helps you (excuse my bad english :P).

Thanks!  I think I've got it now.  I'm gonna do it like I said above, but I think I'm also going to add a AIN module to give me some buttons.  It looks as though you can just keep adding and adding modules to your hearts content, which is just SO damn cool.  Eventually this thing I'm making could be one incredible tool!

Thanks for your help, I'll be asking more question, undoubtably, once I get going.  For now it's placing the order and waiting for parts.
