months ago i tried to switch from SID 6581 to SID 8580 (or so... can't reember well the numbers!) and from old PIC 16F to the MIOS.

the result was unsuccessful and my SID lied unused for a long time

now i'd like to resuscitate it, starting from cheking the core module.

regarding this, i have a dumb question: i don't have any control surface. so, what is the correct firmware i should use for the SID? i DL the latest SID release, should i use it without any further problem or should i find a way to recompile it for adapting to my hardware configuration?

I currently have my sid running with no control surface using the http://www.ucapps.de/mios/midibox_sid_v1_5c_18f_stepC.zip

file. So it should work for you too. Please note that to use the 18f instead of the i6 f requires you to change the crystal on the core board to a 10mhz crystal (it is internally quadrupled by the pic to 40 mhz) also note a new release of MIOS and an alpha version of the SID program, which will only be supported by the 18f.

Good luck!

i have changed ti crystal, and the mios was tested... before it happened *something* that made the core module don't work anymore.

should i upload the new MIOS release via midi, right? the PIC already have the bootstrap loader
