Guest analouge Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Hi.I'm not sure where to put this question, but I gather it has something to do with MIOS programming - I hope... :)I haven't yet built my planned 4xSID box, but I have a question regarding the LCD stuff. As I can see in the pics of the LCD and all the menus in the SID section I notice that when you select the first item on the display - in this case OSC - the cursor is located at the far other end of the display - pointing into nowhere...Is it very difficult to move everything in the display one character to the right, so that the cursor can be placed to the left of every item on the menu? Are you following me?Thanks for help... :) Quote
TK. Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 Hi Ingebret,I'm not sure if you really want to change the menu display handler, or if you are just searching for a more detailed description how it works. Normaly I'm assuming that people trust me - I would never release such an unusable menu handler - I gave my best to make the whole UI so flexible and especially intuitive as possible so that I don't have to lost much words on it. You will notice this once you are playing with the SID ;-)You've guessed that:the right arrow is the cursor? This isn't correct. This arrow shows if the page can be scrolled to the right, or if you are at the right end (arrow into the other direction). The cursor just blinks with a 1:4 duty cycle (here: gray shated) so that it doesn't disturb your creative flow, but points out exactly which item has been selected. Sorry that my skills are too low for creating an animated .gif ;-)Best Regards, Thorsten. Quote
Guest analouge Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Hi TK!The way I thought of - that the "selected item" cursor just point out into nowhere seemed a little bit stupid to me, when you could just move everything one space to the right and get everything right....But I was wrong ;)... Yes - I thought I had understood how it worked, and was asking if it was possible to reprogram the whole thing so that the cursor was on the left side of the item at all times... Bur I still don't understand entirely how the menu works... How do I see what item is selected? You say something about 1:4 cycle - but sorry, that doesn't mean much to me ;)... Is it (in this case) the "OSC" letters that is blinking, or did I misunderstood the whole thing again?Wow... Im just messing up things here... but I gather - it isn't illegal to ask questions - not even stupid ones... Thanks for the efforts trying to explain this to me, though it can seem difficult :P hehe...Cheers Quote
TK. Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Hi Ingebret, more detailed description about such a trivial thing aren't my strength.Hm - are you willing to improve the menu documentation once you've tried it with your own MIDIbox SID?Best Regards, Thorsten. Quote
goyousalukis Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Hey Synth - the display is very simple and easy to use. As soon as you build a SID, you will see. The arrow on the right only means that there are more items to the right. The currently selected item is shown by blinking. If Osc is selected, then it will blink, if Wav is selected it will blink. Don't worry too much about the details. Build a SID module and you will be impressed.Good Luck, JustinP.S. Thorsten, don't get too caught up answering the easy questions - there are plenty of forum members that can and will help you out!!!! Quote
Guest analouge Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Hey!TK. Thanks for help, and also you Justin!! :)Of course - I do trust you TK, that you design good stuff, and if you need any help with documentation I am always willing to help! After all - I do like writing documentation... and yes, of course I can help you making animated GIFs !! :)I am that type of guy that kinda needs to have every little detail under control when I work on a project... that is when I'm working on a project - you should see my room :P - looks like a test field for granades ;D. So that I usually don't have any control over! However, I'm kinda stuck right now paying bills - and the money that is left I need for food and smoke ;D, so I haven't been doing a lot with the SID project right now, but I'm counting on getting it done within the summer. I've got the SIDs (4x8580 ;D) and the PICs. Also got 3 chips for the BankStick... I figured I don't need more of those. After all I don't think I need place for almost 400 patches - at least not yet...But - hey - I'll make some animated GIFs for you TK based on the ones you have in the documentation now, and I'll mail them to you, and then you can consider if you want to use them or not... :)Cheers!
