Guest bod
this is my first post on here, but i've been lurking for a while just learning as much as possible, but could some one help me with a few questions i have regarding knobs/pots please?Q1: i'm building a controller for Live with 3 EQ pots per channel. thing is i'd like a knob/ecoder that only rotates 300 degress or so, like the pots on a dj mixer for instance (not endless), and i would prefer if they are not detented. if any one could recomend any that would be suitable that would be great, cos i cant find anything in the uk from farnell amougnst others, but maybe i just dont know what to look for.Q2: i cant decided what is best, to mount them to the chasis or to mount them to a matrix/bread board and then mount that into the casing. can any one offer a bit of insight into the two methods such as pros and cons of either way?hope i'm not asking to much, but any info would he highly appreciated!!!cheers, bod. pay_c
Hi!For the pots: Either ebay (like always) - chance to get trashy pots or reichelt.de (Germany), they also send to the UK over a limit order (like 50 Euros or so). The Pots @ Reichelt are 270° and so should really be that what you´re looking for. They´re are not to smooth, which I think is good, because you won´t move them accidentally. Here are some order numbers:P6M-LIN 10K for 6mm axis 0.53/pieceP4M-LIN 10K for 4mm axis - I don´t recommend those (to loose)P6S-LIN 10K for stereo pot (normally not needed)P6M-LOG 10K for logarithmic pot (also normally not needed here)You still do need some knobs for those! E.g. those: KNOPF 14-6 SWMore ordering numbers of Reichelt on the UCApps.de page.Hope that helps a little bit, Greetz pay.c! :)

Rowan
Hi bod,Welcome to the forum. With regard to your second question, What you really need to think about is how much "abuse" your controller have to indure. Mounting the encoders/pots and buttons on the chasie is far more robust. Matrix board is also a good idea, but beware, when you design your panel make sure all your mesurments are done in 0.1" (2.54mm) grid. That's the spacing on most matrix board. So if you can do both, all pro mixing consoles have to pots solderd to PCB's AND bolted to the front.RegardsRowan
Guest bod
to be honest it'll take a serious kicking ;D so i might have to go down the route of soldering on the pcb and chasis mounting. cheers for the advice!pay-c: those pots you mentioned, how long is the shaft on them? i cant read german to well, but are they 20mm shafts? and where about on the ucapps.de site does it mention the order codes? i think i'm blind..... pay_c
The shafts are 6mm diameter and preeeeetty long (no idea what exactly). Certainly 40 mm or more. You *always* have to cut them down to make them fit.For the orderlists: e.g. here: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp_ain.htmlthere is a little link there to here:http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_ainx4_orderlist.txt(Nearly all order lists for Reichelt are stated with the modules! That´s cool, not to much work! Thnx TK! Greetz! ;D)
