Hi, just wondering what people have used for powersuply with their LC's , as I understand it needs 12v for mf and 5 for the rest.

What are the options/solutions?

if you read the LC-page, there is a pdf with schematic how to connect a switching power supply (like in PC's) to your LC, or you could just buy a power supply with separate +5V and +12V (pollin.de sells really cheap ones (mind the max current) ).

Hi

I am using a powersupply from a laptop its 15v and about 3a I think?

All I have done is to build a very simple circuit on some vero board with a couple of voltage regulators to step the voltage down.

Hi Nikolai,

Those mouser linear power supplies are an extremely expensive solution (and heavy). Better to source a surplus or second hand computer smps. (extremely cheap!)

i've been wondering about which psu to use for a 2x sid..

they are 6581's which i hear needs 5v and 9v

i don't have any c64s.. would a pc power supply like this be suitable?

if not.. are these 5 and 9v psu's available commercially?

many thanks

no, but there are gazillions of 5V and 12V supplies courtesy of the computer industry, and very cheap if you look in the surplus and secondhand/ recycled market.

Then simply use a three terminal regulator (7809)  to provide 9V from the 12V rail.

If its a low power circuit (which I suppose is what your talking about re SID) then a 12VDC plug pack could feed 5V and 9V regulator ICs.

What Duggle suggested is exactly what I have done. I have a 13.8V supply available anyway so I feed a 7809 with 100uF smoother and 2*100nF antiparasitic caps, the output feeds the 9V rail and also feeds the input of a 7805 with similar caps, output of 7805 feeds 5V rail. Downside is that the 7809 is carrying full current for both the rails but with suitable heatsink is good for about 1A which is much more than needed.
