oshea Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 I am fairly new here, have been lurking for a while and have spent many hours going through lots of posts. In a few weeks I will be launching a project that has a similair ethos to the midibox community. I have created a controller interface that anyone can essentially build and I want to build a website that will facilitate creativity with this platform, not only in the way it is made, but in how performers use it and artists develop for it.I admire the open diy approach of this community. I also like that it is a community of people who, like the open source movement, are contributing their time and knowledge for the better good of the project and community. My project aims are similair to midibox, but as an alternative, not a competing project. My project is more related to this thread.More information in a few weeks on the website will make sense, but in the mean time does anyone have any thoughts on the success of diy homebrew controller/interface projects, building and sustaining an open source community etc. Quote
moxi Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 hi ,My project aims are similair to midibox, but as an alternative, not a competing project. My project is more related to this thread. Why alternative ? maybe you don't know how much open is the MIDIbox Operating System ? maybe your project could supplement the MIDIbox one ? competition, as there is no commercial purpose here, will be for the knowledge ,so i think it won't be a bad thing!!! :)waiting for your site!... moxi Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 you want to know what do the MIDIbox project succesful? Quote
stryd_one Posted April 6, 2005 Report Posted April 6, 2005 Good people, Talented people, and a great forum, all combined in no particular order certainly play a part....But without TK, it would be nothing.... Quote
adamjking Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Good people, Talented people, and a great forum, all combined in no particular order certainly play a part....I'll second that. Coming from a software background, it is refreshing to have a forum that doesn't break down into fights about operating systems, programming languages, etc. If I see another person substitute 'M$' for 'Microsoft' then I think I'll scream ::)Maybe hardware people are more practical? doc Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Maybe hardware people are more practical?.... YES, THEY ARE !! ::)The most significant reason for this behaviour is, that most Hardware people are knowing what they do ..... they make their own faults with their knowledge. If they don't know a thing - they ask the community. Mostly they get help.Software people are mostly trying to compense their "un-knowledge" by critisizing the software ???... thats what i think ...greetsDOC Quote
