Afro88
Hi,I've been looking through this site for the past couple of days and I'm getting pretty excited about building a midibox SID. So far I've gathered that if I want to build the sid with the minimal control surface, I'd need:1 x core module1 x sid module1 x din module1 x backlit 2x20 LCD6 x push buttons1 x rotary encoderThe only problem is I can't find any information on how to wire up the buttons and encoder to the din module, or if I really need a din module for this setup. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great :)Now I just have to finish off my Soundlab synth and I can get cracking on this one! :D
Afro88
Ok, I've found the wiring diagram - I missed the links under "hardware options". That answers all my questions. Sorry for the un-needed thread!
Lo-Fi_Massahkah
Is that you, Afrokid?Cheers,Mikael
Afro88
Sure is Lo-Fi. I assume you're the same Lo-fi_Masshkah from the electro-music forums? :)I should be getting all the parts I need for a MIDIBox SID over the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to put it all together. I just finished the Soundlab DIY analogue synth, and the sound is great. It's amazing how you can get such good quality equipment from DIY'ing.Just a quick question though, can I ask where you got your SID chip from? Did you just get an old C64 or something? I've seen the link to the place that sells 6581's for 25 euro's, but that seems a bit steep... you can get a second hand C64 for that much! Lo-Fi_Massahkah
Hi Afro!I bought an old brown C64 at a local indoor flea market for 200 swedish kronor (about 22 euros). I'm glad I got the whole computer, since I can use the case and keys for other DIY projects (I'm itching for a MidiBox Seq). There's been talk on this forum about people selling faulty SIDs - I guess you'd be better off buying a complete C64 (or 128), since you can see how worn it looks and if it's been taken apart for spares. You could easily get one on Ebay for less than 20 euros, but then there's the shipping...This forum is great if you run into problems - I'm certainly not one of the experienced builders here, but if you have questions feel free to ask away!Good luck,Mikael
Afro88
Cheers Mikael, I'll take a look around the markets here. Hopefully someone's got 4 mint c64's and a power supply for sale ;)
