Djo
SID's should be in nintendos, right? If not, where should i search them (never saw a commodore64 computer here, in Ukraine)? I really wish this synth is in nintendo (got a tons of them).
seppoman
SID's should be in nintendos, right?no.If not, where should i search them (never saw a commodore64 computer here, in Ukraine)? I really wish this synth is in nintendo (got a tons of them). The SID was constructed for the C64 and built by MOS who later were even owned by Commodore. As far as I know, no other machine used them. If there are no C64s in the Ukraine, then eBay is your friend. eBay Germany alone has a few hundred C64s sold every week, you just need to find a seller that ships to your country.Seppoman
Djo
That sucks. Normally shipment from eBay takes the same price as a stuff, (just like Korg DW 8000 - 250$ for synth, and 200 for shipment - SUCKS!). Have to wait when you guys figure out how to get sound out of the PIC ;D
DrBunsen
Or you can ask here for anyone with SID chips for sale in the Trading Post forum. You're after SID 6581 or 8580 chips. Sometimes you can find them on ebay too, but not often. The two links at the top of the page are your friends.
seppoman
The PIC thing has nothing to do with the SID sound. Maybe it´ll bring some interesting sounds, but don´t wait for a reproduction of the character of the SID...About shipping costs: Of course things like whole synths that are big and heavy will cost a fortune for international shipping. But I once won an auction of a package with C64s and loads of old joysticks disk drives etc. and I persuaded the seller that he´d just pull out the SIDs and throw the rest into the garbage. So if you get in contact with sellers before bidding, this might be a way to get reasonable shipping costs.Seppoman
DrBunsen
Not all SIDs are socketed
seppoman
Not all SIDs are socketedI´d say 95% are - I never saw soldered SIDs personally. But if you´re fast, try this one:http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=8280.012 Euros is a good price and postage will probably be reasonable.Seppoman
c0nsumer
SID's should be in nintendos, right? If not, where should i search them (never saw a commodore64 computer here, in Ukraine)? I really wish this synth is in nintendo (got a tons of them). You shouldn't wreck anything. Either buy stand-alone SIDs, ask friends with broken C64s for them, or buy 'for parts' C64s on eBay. Trashing a wholly working vintage computer just to rip out one chip is rather wasteful.-Steve
tarzan boy
uh this is getting rather esoteric, and psosibly off the original topic, and possibly preaching to the converted, but I got 9 SIDs from C64s and only one of them was busted, and i didnt need to 'trash' any of the others to get the sid out, but shit, u know that. i'm just bored. Vince
I've found 2 fully working C64's near some dustbins at my place.. :)
Vince
But is it possible to hookup the 2A03 from the Nes with something?
stryd_one
Of course it's possible :) but someone has to write the application, and it's not a simple thing really...
Vince
I've tried some, but it was a hell. So I decided to make an wakeupradio (or how do you call it in EN?) from the case of the nes... :)
