Odd (faulty?) Core

Hi,

Finished my core the other day (Perfoboard) and managed (After some bugs and errors) to burn my 18F452 using the mbph_burner (Perfoboard as well)

The pic wouldn't burn using pkp (linux) (Problem burning the config fuses) but after I installed the whole KDE shebang, I managed to get pikdev to work, and to burn the pic correctly (It burns, the verifies and sais 'ok' so I guess it's Okay...

I even (tried to manually)  check(ed) the fuses values to the sourcecode..

Well, this core thing then seems to sort of live, but still....

I don't see no midi data comeing out of it  (The upload request it is supposed to send every 2 sec.) when I use (mac) Midi Monitor.

I checked the ports on my Edirol UA25 (loopback cable trick and sysex librarian to 'upload' some code) and the are OK.

Used the midi ports on my Motu 828MKII as well.... no result.

Plugged a LED in the Midi OUT on the MB: It flashes! Every 2 secs....

The display shows 1 line of black squares. 2nd line is empty.

My question is: Is the PIC burned correctly? (Espesially the fuses!) I shoud think so: If the osc is not running (on the right speed) then the led-flash-interval should th eOTHER than 2 secs, right?

Hope someone can help me out.... I'm a bit lost now..

Regards, Paul

Paul,

That sounds like a healthy bootloader with no MIOS or app yet (the LCD would only have that row of blocks at that point), but somehow your MIDI output isn't making it out. Being simpler than the input part, it shouldn't be hard to troubleshoot.

Have you checked the wiring of the MIDI pins? I think everybody in here has gotten the two main pins reversed at one point or another (or a hundred in my case). Remember you may be looking at diagrams referencing the front or rear of the five pin connector.

Good Luck,

George

PS-- Make sure you're not using something which might ignore or filter a SysEx message on whatever you're feeding from it. I think my Kurzweil sampler's monitor might do that to certain message types.

Okay people, please tell me:

Should I:

a: Drive off a clliff

b: Go play on the motorway

c: Hang my head in the microwave, or

d: lay down in front of a cementmixer

?

Yes? Thank you...

I was so sure (not!) I wired the din ports correctly, that I just didn't even have another look.... Well.. It were them than!

Thanks, It seems to work.

(As well as my 2*16 display..., cool!)

Regards, Paul

e) Drive off a cliff into a motorway with your head in a microwave and collide with a cement mixer

f) Realise that now you are just like all of us  ;)

Anyone here never made a wiring error? Anyone? *crickets chirping* No, that's what I thought  :)
