leaphion Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Sorry for the odd topic, but I just couldn't figure out how to put the thing I want to know in a one sentence.I've been having a dream about a specific kind of midibox. The description would be following:"A midi controller that could recognize VST(i)'s from the project that is open in the sequencer, and by which you can control parameters that are ready assigned for these VST(i):s."So, just to make things sure in the beginning, do you think it could be possible for the midibox to recognize VST:s? If not, could it be possible on other plugin format (e.g. LADSPA, DSSI, etc.)?Don't bail me straight away. You know I'm a n00b. :) Quote
TK. Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 You are not the only one who dreams about such a feature, it's on my personal wishlist since years, but it depends on the manufacturers of sequencing software to provide a suitable application interface.Last time we discussed about potential possibilities in this thread:http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=9376.msg67062#msg67062But as you will see: it won't be a trivial task, and it won't work without the support of the music industry (maybe only exception: you are working under Linux and have access to the source code of the host software)Best Regards, Thorsten. leaphion Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Well, that explains a lot. Apparently gotta go linux with the music production. With linux sequencers, all sequencer-projects (except for Energy XT2) are Open Source, so I don't think that it would be impossible to implement such a feature on those sequencers. And as most sequencers run with JACK, it might be possible that you should not have to touch the source of the sequencer at all. Probably. At least that's what I'd assume. But, apparently I gotta start learning C. "I have a dream." ;) Quote
goule Posted July 4, 2007 Report Posted July 4, 2007 leaphion : I used to have the same project in mind; I finally bought a Mackie Control (and have to say I'm very satisfied with it). What you want is build a clone of Mackie C4 I guess ;) Well ... I trust Thorsten when he says you gotta have contacts in the music industry, when your name is "Mackie" it can help :P But the thing is : it works for sure. What about sniffing MIDI between Cubase & a Mackie Control ? Perhaps I should give it a try ::) because :- communications between VSTis & the mackie control is 100% MIDI- the mackie automatically recognizes the VSTis your song uses and gives access to all VST parameters ...Keep on searching, don't give up, there might be some reverse-ingeneering-geeking way of doing it !! :)Cheers,Goule Quote
leaphion Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 - the mackie automatically recognizes the VSTis your song uses and gives access to all VST parameters ...It does?! Aww shit! Didn't know that, I just assumed you have to type the name of the parameter yourself. And you're right, Mackie C4 inspired me a lot. Although it doesn't seem to have everything I want... Quote
