hi Majesty ,

if your'e really looking to save money and don't need the DIY fun, you should go for cheap but well working usb soundcards like "maya ex" or something, theyr'e about 100-150 euros here in germany and maybe cheaper in the US. Theyre with 2 ins and 6 outs or the other model is with 8 channel outputs etc. They even have spdif (digital in and outs) and  quite easy to use and have a good sound quality. Theyr'e shipping with WDM drivers but you may need a commercial asio driver which you can buy from the internet for about 40$ though, if you need low latencys.

the diy project from the Elektor magazine what i mentioned on my above posts would cost you at least 60-80$ i guess but i am not sure.

here are the links for usb audio interfaces:

i just got 3 x PCM2902 and 3 x OPA2353UA for free...  ;D

they can be ordered as samples from burr-brown/ti webpage (http://www.burr-brown.com)  ;)

the remaining stuff needed to build the usb interface should be easy to find, now i just miss the optical receiver/transmitter modules  :-/
