  1. Guys? Whereabouts in the chain the chord and scale generators go - at the beginning or at the end? Both?
  2. Search search search! *stryd one runs in circles screaming and then trips on a stick and falls into the oncoming traffic* I know this has been covered before, and if you don't look, and ask TK, then it takes his time away from more cool things for us to build and the fun things he would like to do in his spare time :'( I know, sometimes it can take HOURS to find what you need... It sucks, but that's DIY, it takes time and effort! Edit: the other night, I had to search for two hours to find one of my own posts hahahaha I decided that I should search for it myself before I mouthed off, so here is how easy you could have found it: Click the search link Search for: LED button cap By user: TK Scroll down. Not hard! I know, sometimes you have to experiment for a while with different search strings, but it's the same with every search engine.... Edit: this is not the official opinion of a moderator, I'm just a cranky bastard mouthing off :)
  3. I see a lot of splashes and stuff all over that board man... Check for shorts maybe.... The parts also look very 'wonky'... I think overall you need to take more care when you solder. No offence :) A pretty board is usually a good one. Yep, smash's PICs have MIOS on them. OK so your Vdd is 7.6 and your ground is 13, what are you putting into it? What is it right after the rectifier? Does the vreg get hot? Edit: I can see something (solder?) hanging off the top 5th pin from the left of the PIC on that bottom picture... and the 6th... and the 9th... Joints 3rd and 5th from the left on the bottom are dry....Looks like a short between the pins of the bypass cap (left side, bottom img, in the middle).... Maybe it's all artifacts from the camera...
  4. Search..... Not google, that link up there ^ ;) in short, this is not simple, you need ethernet and IP to run OSC, the PIC won't do it, it's gonna be expensive, and won't carry much benefit if any. What do you want it for? (Aside from the obvious, which is "it'd be nice" hehehe) Edit: You might consider Make's controller which talks OSC and CAN... >$100
  5. Most of those pages have a few items on them, as Sasha pointed out. Those pots have a 5cm long shaft, thats LONG. I dunno if that's what you want. The buttons are quite large (1.5cm hole, prolly 2cm all up.), I dunno if that's what you want. You can read the datasheet to see if the fader knobs will fit. As you can see, the answer of "yes this is OK" or "no this is not" depends on two things: Your design, which only you know, and reading the data sheets, which you can do. Don't be afraid man, just take your time and plan carefully, and you won't have to live up to your nickname :)
  6. Screwed if I can find a retailer here.. How much are they? The stands are $575 - WTF! That's stupid.
  7. I know what ya mean mate. Here's my knee-jerk-not-thought-through-properly response: Well as for the Waldorf knob... To be brutally honest... The reason people keep asking about them is because they aren't using the darn search engine first ::) Actually if I'm gonna be brutally honest... The same goes for pretty much everything that is a 'popular' part, like tact switches and pots and motorfaders. The problem with a list like that is that it quickly becomes so long that it isn't useful any more, it just causes confusion and more questions (which one of these is better?) :( Then you get things like you buy from the documented retailer only to find out that since it was posted there has been a price change and you could have got it from a cheaper source, you get parts that get discontinued which lead to more questions (Where did this part go?) etc etc etc... All that whining done, if people want to make that post up, if it becomes popular and is useful and gets lots of reads, and if TK has no objection, I will be happy to sticky it for ya, and edit it so that stuff that is added over time by different people can be grouped together. I am here to serve :) I think a wiki page is more appropriate for a compilation like that though...

I know, it's the standard "for" argument when referring to presets, and probably 80% of the peeps here agree with ya, so don't feel alone :) but you've missed my point... Never mind what CAN be done... You should be thinking about what you WANT done, and then making it happen. PS Tweaking != original, otherwise Vanilla Ice would not have gotten sued.
  9. oops missed a spot... Yeh totally... I think it comes down to the fact that accurate sound is quite often not pleasant... Yaknow, like if you can get it to sound good in the studio, it'll sound good anywhere... Of course Hifi/audiophile dudes rarely want to admit that they are trying to sweeten things up... Engineers have no choice but to go raw as they can... My favourite is the $2000 power cable... FFS hey...
  10. Hehehe Yet totally, well spotted.... It's funny, I was actually about to say something about how the graphs should be taken with a grain of salt, and that there's no substitute for bringing along a player with some music you know well, then I realised you'd kinda already beaten me to the second bit and knew you'd mention the first shortly :)
  11. Yeh it's cool huh! I was actually googling for images of the response graphs to embed in my post, and stumbled over it by accident... It's a beauty! Now we need one for monitors hehehehe
  12. I've been too sick to work on anything this serious, and was waiting on an answer to my last question anyway :) (Whereabouts in the chain the chord and scale generators go - at the beginning or at the end?) Thx for the advice Wilba! Most chords can be notated in short form and 4 chars would be enough but the scales is a different story ;)
  13. Lightweight? I doubt it hah... Maybe you're thinking of the SP model which have the unsplit headband and miss the steel reinforced cabling and have a B grade driver... I think Sennheiser (and I) would beg to differ there, and the frequency response graphs say it all. Scope this page for a nice way to compare: Build A Graph Here's one I prepared earlier (Link has brackets so you'll have to copy and paste) http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=189&graphID[]=27&graphID[]=195 Edit: Check the distortion graphs. The winner is clear: http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=1&graphID[]=189&graphID[]=27&graphID[]=195 See above ;) The top end is OK but the bass rolls off pretty badly, which is a recipe for muddy mixes. Oh, and sony stuff all tend to come with a 'smiley EQ' response as they aren't studio gear, they're designed to "sound nice" in a Hifi kinda way :( I hate sony gear as a generalisation, the only good thing they do is their amp circuitry in their walkman/discman, which is the exact same thing that it was in the original walkman before they got popular... Oh and the high end bits like their desks and FX
  14. smash's encoders are good quality... You might want to check your soldering, and maybe try another one, perhaps you overheated it or something...
  15. Sennheiser HD25 (not HD25SP) Anything else is a weak substitute :) I say that after listening for 30 minutes with different sources to EVERY sennheiser, sony, AKG and beyer model available. That salesman hated me until I parted with the $500 hehehe
  16. Yup, DPDT (latching, not momentary) aka DPDT ON-OFF ( Not (ON)-OFF or ON-(OFF) )

My big patch gripe is absynth v1's preset 0 (Does anyone remember the name? samething like 'generic SFX sound')... Has anyone else noticed how often you hear that?? It's everywhere! Very poor effort :(
  18. *bump* ;) Hey guys is anyone here (aside from TK who is too busy for such trivial things) good at perl? Maybe you've had some more practice since this first script you wrote AC? I'd really like to make a full macro conversion script out of this, as it makes it easier to include existing ASM code in our C projects. It's just a glorified search&replace thing really, and I can explain what needs to be done, if you can cut the code. I've just done this manually, so that the nokia driver can be included in a C app, but It would be very nice to have an automated method, as it will make it much faster, and also means that we can use gpasm all the time, which gives us a nice multi-platform solution for compiling anything midibox :) I hope someone can volunteer their time :) Thanks!
  19. Listen to TheProf, cause he really is always right :D Gold.
  20. Very nice looking :) It's a shame that you didn't do the documentation here, as it's not unusual for external documentation to be lost later on :( Also just a tip for next time - you're very lucky that you didn't fry anything by putting stuff on carpet - chances are that's an unnatural fibre and is a huge static damage risk! Did you make any software mods or is it standard Step A?

live ccs as in CC's as in MIDI CC's perhaps? Make your own patches... Isn't that the point of a synth?
  22. Yeh, that's the seller's typo not mine :)
  23. Of course I am, I'm always right, I'm a guru ;D LOL (JOKE!)
  24. Yeh, well I'm a "guru" and you've helped me before, so STFU and puff up your chest, tweaker :D Serious man, I think you get to be a guru at 1000 posts or something, and I can assure you that I was no guru when I had that postcount. Don't take too much notice of the label, all it really is, is a marker of how much you chat. Besides... You will be surprised how much you have learned. In 500 posts or so, you'll be a guru, and half of your guru-ness will be made up of what you know right now.
  25. ... Or 6581... You won't find a 6582 there :) Not correcting Sasha, he knows this already... I think he is just obsessed with Wilba's MBSID like the rest of us :)
