  1. It's been a while since I've been back here but I thought some of you might find this interesting. Peff (a big user in the Reason community) has detailed how to control an analog synth via CV by way of Reason (and a MOTU Audio interface). Check it out. http://www.peff.com/journal/2009/06/12/reason-cvgate-to-analog-synths/ http://www.peff.com/journal/2009/06/17/moogerfooger-synth-via-reason-40/ http://www.peff.com/journal/2009/07/20/reason-cv-to-roland-din-sync/ http://www.youtube.com/user/PeffTV
  2. Certainly I would check out any demos that are available first. Most DAW's probably have a demo of some sort. Personally I use Live and really like the workflow because of it's gearing towards loop based sequencing and ability to work with DJing. My recommendation would be to steer away from freebie DAW's. This is only because they may not exist next week or they may not be very feature rich. Also, support and user base may be limited. With an established app, the developers are constantly working to improve it and may be more invested in doing so than a free app. I also liked Cubase SX when I played with it 4-5 years ago on a PC. Logic, when I used it nearly 6 years ago, was a bit uncomfortable for me but that may have changed since. That was only because of how the track routing was setup. Hope that helps some. Look forward to other input. Good luck in your search! :)
  3. Bad Frickin-Ass! Way to go Smash! I recall there being a post a while back that the CS kits will be a while off. Is that still the case or could they be coming along with the Base kits? Thanks again for the hard work on this!
  4. I also received mine this week. Thanks so much for arranging this order!
  5. Thanks TK, I have not connected my bank stick yet so that would be a good reason to get going on this. Derek
  6. Hi All, Just got my dual SID v1 up and running a few weeks ago. Naturally, this is one master, one slave. I only have an LCD going for my interface thus far. In addition, I had modified the SID code so the SID's are always linked. I am playing with some of the patches using JSynthLib to edit. I am using the standard 6581 presets. I am having a bit of trouble sending patches to my slave though. I can edit the patch for the master but the patch on the slave doesn't change. I can control both SID's with my keyboard controller (Note On/Off only) but the CC's only affect the master. Perhaps I am misunderstanding how the master/slave setup should work. I was trying to "emulate" a left and right channel with my setup by having the same patch on both M/S and have them both be controlled simultaneously. Perhaps I am using JSynthLib incorrectly? Any ideas? Please pwn me if I am being silly. Thanks! Derek
  7. Another hint: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/wilba_mb_6582_pcbthread ;) There's plenty out there to read up about. In fact it is encouraged to read through as much as possible (hence the readme). Please indulge in this information as it should answer this and many other questions. :)
  8. Well I'll continue with the original intent of the thread and add my request to the queue: 1 Baseboard kit (w/PIC's) + 1 Control Surface kit. I am deeply grateful for the hard work and dedication put forth by TK, Smash, Wilba and all the others in the community. Thank you all for the innovations!
  9. Thanks t_xen, I also wanted to thank you for a previous post of yours that was the final piece of advise I needed to get some sound out of my chip! It was about the interconnections between the SID and CORE for Smash's boards. The labeling threw me off but your thread (and especially the replies) totally rocked! :):):)
  10. I just got my single SID to work earlier this week after way too long since I began this project. Naturally, I was thrilled :) On to my question... I built the optimized PSU with the intent that I would build the 4x SID setup. I think it is a bit sloppy looking with the daisy-chained 5volt power going to each of the SID and CORE modules (see the optimized psu pdf). I was considering redoing my PSU board but instead of daisy-chaining the 5v line to the J2 on each board, I wanted to use a star configuration (I think this is the correct term) to output a single line to each from the psu with the idea that they would be connected along a ribbon cable until they reach their intended PCB. It seems like this would work except with the SID module, the last board is supposed to end with a 2200uF Cap. If I used this approach, would I have to connect every SID module to the 2200uF Cap since they wouldn't be chained? Just trying to minimize the cable clutter in my future case. Thanks for any advise.
  11. I know this is an old topic, but it was the silver bullet to finally getting some tones from my SID! Needed to give some appreciation! Thanks to all who have helped in forums as well as a huge props to TK! Now onto the 4x SID I intended to do 2 years ago... ;D
  12. Success! After cleaning up some questionable solder points and re-burning the MIOS, the LCD has displayed READY. Thanks so much for your help.
  13. Hi! Thanks for the replies. We I got MIOS uploaded just fine today. However I am not getting the READY screen when I power up. All I get is the single line of blocks on the LCD. I have it wired properly (AFAIK). Link to the datasheet: http://www.shopeio.com/inventory/pdf/AMC2002C.pdf Any other thoughts? I'll retry the LCD tests over the weekend, probably Sunday and return with any results. Thanks again for the noobie assistance.
  14. Oh and I am still working on the version previous to v2. I took a hiatus from the project for a while (~1 year). :P
  15. Are you saying that v1.9 (latest available MIOS) is not supported for the PIC18F452? If so, is there a place where old versions of MIOS are kept where I can get the latest version that supports the PIC18F452? I understand that the PIC18F452 is not supported anymore though but I would like to get something working before I go out and buy more PIC's, ya know. Thanks!!! :)
