  1. Just for Information, new SwinSID Firmware is out (ATMEGA 8515) http://www.forum64.de/wbb3/board65-neue-hardware/board288-sid-co/board294-swinsid/33292-swinsid-firmware-updates/#post406561

    Digitized Sound

by the way there is also a new way of getting 8-Bit Filtered Sample out of a Stock SID 6581 / 8580 here are some Demos playback best on a Real C64 or the HOXS64 Emulator others wont playback the new Trick well ;) http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=72563 http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=72678 So for the Future I would like to see this new feature in MIDIBOX SID ... yeah an 8BIT Filtered - Sampler without additional Hardware except some RAM / ROM ;)
  3. Under Item number: 130202520908 they also offer now single TDA 1543 so you can grab as much as you need now... Happy Soldering ;D
  4. Also a design suggestion for the DualCore PCB, I would put the 24MHz Oscillator as near as possible to the CLK in, so you may flip the AVRs and put the Oscillator to the left bottom side and the TDA to the right up-side... This would minimise the RF noise of the Oscillator ... I my desgin for the C64 I just put the Oscillator under the AVR but that reguires a thinner socket for the AVR ;) Just my thoughts ... Maybe you share your schematic file? For playing around with the Parts position.
  5. some say sound quality of a TDA 1543 is better that a thing you should decide for yourself and your taste of how the sound is... ;-) but an other thing is price ... look with one TDA 1543 or whatever DAC you choose you can connect TWO AVR's for Sound so the Calculation goes better than any original SID Chip... the Cheapest SID Chip I can get here in Germany will be around 15 Euro for the old 6581 or 20 Euro for the newer 6581 R4AR or the 8580R5 ... for that money you can get a lot of AVR's and even the DAC Chips.... so stop crying about the DAC Price... and start building and using them ;D btw. the AVR mega 8515 used in here is about 1,70 Euro bei Reichelt.de and the 24MHz Oscillator is about 1,55 Euro so for the Dualcore or Stereo SwinSID you need one DAC one 24MHz Oscillator and two AVR mega 8515 ... do the math...
  6. well at voti.nl they still sell the desired TDA1543 for 2,50 Euro ... so where is the problem? This DAC is also used in some external CD Player DAC Projects for it's good Sound also look on Ebay the sell DAC-Kits with this Chip for xxxx Euro Prices very heavy... So I bougth some pieces from voti with no problem at all, fast shipping too... And also very easy to connect, with other DA you need extra clock and parts and so on...
  7. another idea if the normal filter in the sid is not enough, why not just build the SwinSID and ask Swinkels for an improved Firmware with your desired Filter Settings... The AVR is about 1,70 Euro here in Germany (Reichelt.de) ;D
  8. Hi nILS, here ya go and get it ;D http://rapidshare.com/files/112571896/4nILS.zip.html The Song Melissa_D is a Stereo left 6581 right SwinSID The Old_Friends is only the SwinSID But in this Song are either the Samples to silent or the Sid Voices to loud... The Songs with Samples I tested matched perfectly so just listen... 8)

    SwinSID Review

Here are the PIC of a DualCore SwinSID, I just piggypacked the 2 AVRs on Top of eachother and so it is very easy to connect em both... of course I used a Socket on the underlaying AVR so I can flash em individually when new Firmware shows up, last Firmware was from 1. May evening ;D which now sound very very close to the original even the pitch matches and the noise generator also
  13. Hi everyone if you like you can download and listen some one on one demos left the 6581 R4AR right the SwinSID with actual Firmware ;D http://rapidshare.com/files/111795777/6581SwinSIDnew.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/111815078/6581SwinSID_Test2.zip.html Have fun while listening... and always Remeber the SwinSID can do much more than only SID Sounds! Here is the SwinSID playing alone with Digis ... http://rapidshare.com/files/111795778/SwinSIDnew.zip.html 8)

    SwinSID Review

As I am also in email contact with Swinkel he is going to put everything together on his Site so you can grab all files there in a few days. He also informed me about the new Firmware which is a real Hammer :o so stay Tuned and keep watching his Site. I am also posting for the C64 Freaks in the german www.forum-64.de board for the Computer Part which was the original intend for this chip but as synth in a Midibox it is also a perfect choice an may save many c64's live ;D Soon there will be some more Soundexample of Real SID Tunes Compared to the SwinSID.
