    mb808 din issue

hey a reply!, thanks fussylizard there has been no responce on any forum about this till now some of the pins are working on this register from what i can tell 1 of the 8 inputs on this one the other registers function ok i did try swapping the IC around but no effect i guess i could try desolder the encoder but it seems to be ok since the output it looks the same on the scope as the working one.
  2. hey everyone i seem to have a few bugs in my sequencer section of my mb808 it all lights up and i can play with patterns however some of my button leds seem not to work for the menu 1 - 4 and loop rwd fwd stop and play but the buttons work i can see them working on my lcd, well except for menu 1, menu 2, menu 3. i dont think they are working. pattern leds and buttons are all fine as are mute, pattern, song and edit anyway the main issue im debugging is my instrument encoder not working. the other encoder works but not this one and im not sure how to debug these digital sections. i can trace the encoder's ground triggers when i turn the encoder, (ie the 5v dropping to ground in a short trigger each time i click it round). i can see these on pins 6 and 7 of the assoicated shift register. i cannot however seem to track the output of the register to the core. even on the working encoder this is the case. using the ucapps schematics for the din and core modules ive check that RC and SC connectivity is ok. so im a little stumped so i would love some advice on how to check through this. i asked on the mb808 forum but patronage seems low over there at the moment
  3. nice almost like bucla processor what about DG412 switch dont you want some enocders somewhere to attenuate?
  4. yeah nice if i cant find the ones like the miami i think ill go for these http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/monomelike-allinone-button-red-p-108.html then swap the leds in them
  5. great work sasha (as always) i'm bound to do this in the next month or two as well i have almost completed my mb808 and have time to build all the drum voice pcbs ive got in my pcb pile currently consisting of 3 th-mps, 909 kick, and soon some sds3 voices does your pcb include all elememts of the 808 pcb without the drums? ie will it include the master outs + accent circuit or is it just core+DIN+DOUT im currently researching buttons that miami808 has great tact switches and caps does anyone know where to find them?
  6. yeah the midify the gate, initially i wasn't going to bother with this function but since i have to burn some pics i might as well add that feature to my boxotrix thanks stryde, thats the info i was searching for
  7. sure thnx stryd i need to put this code onto the pic16f88 http://burnit.co.uk/sdiy/index.php?page=boxotrix&subpage=code and i need to put this code onto the pic16F628 http://www.firestarter-music.de/lsdj/lsdjmc2_v1_4.hex as you can probably tell the world of burning pics is a whole new thing to me so please let me know if there is some fundamental differences that im missing somewhere
  8. well my current projects wont use mios but in the future i will be so in keen to find a solid burner for all occasions i need the 16f88 to midi-fy my seb francis boxotrix, and the 16f628 is for a gameboy midi controller after my mb808 im looking to build another drum machine and i will want to burn my own pic for that using this burner can the mbhp software handle non-mios applications?
  9. so if i made an adapter with a switch routing rb3 to pin 9 and 10 i could successfully use it for both pics. cool i guess what im asking is that the MBHP software will allow me to burn code to the 16F628? i didnt see it spec'd anywhere on the wiki sites or on the MBHP burner page. Ive heard good reports of this burner over others so im keen to see if it can be used for my current project
  10. could the 16f628 be burnt with the MBHP burner w/ PIC16F88 adapter? i need to burn some 16f88s and 16f628s
  11. thanks jim styrd if i have broken a community guideline, please point me in those the direction of those set out on this forum and ill read through and re-adjust. sorry to upset :S i was just trying to help out
  12. you are all a nice lot arn't you :o lets move on
  13. i realise your mentioning this as your role as a moderator and that is cool :) but do some research, he is well known in sdiy communities i didnt sign up just to de-fame people if you research me im an active sdiy community member trying my best to help kids, not take down an industry. politics is for schmucks here is a transcribed letter from the guy chipforbrains (awesome seller who is now known as technology transplant) regarding HKSS (partspipe, hongkongsuperseller) http://www.nabble.com/RE:bad-trader-hongkongsuperseller-td4485956.html im not going to go on about this any more, but buyer beware for lots of ebay stores for rare ICs do some research before buying, usually if they are they are about to scam you, they have scammed poeple before and there will be people venting somewhere and a google search on the part and on the seller should bring it up
  14. ahh no i will check it out thanks for tip got to see terry riley perform at south melbourne town hall last year though :) although we missed the first section where he was plucking strings inside the piano
  15. Northcote kid here I do most my ordering at futurlec. They are cheap, have a good range of ICs though passive component values are pretty standard choice. No extreme values. Good place for cheap pots and jacks, although they went up recently. I used to get 6inch switching jacks for 30c I sometimes head to Rockby but going out to Clayton is an absolute pain in the arse. The only time i bother is when i have to pick up some aluminium as there is heaps of metal factories out in that shit hole of a suburb (sorry if i offended any claytons :p ) and it is cheap. Switches and Knobs are always a bit trickier to find, i bit the bullet and bought about 200 from Partspipe ebay store in hongkong, this guy is pretty dubious but panel components are good and cheap. Just beware buying ICs from him. Lots of unhappy campers. Though i have bought some ba6110s and 3080s from him and they are fine. Just watch the rare ones like BBDs and some rare trannies and cans. I have also been buying harder to find knobs and vactrols from Bridechamber and SmallBear Electronics. Although i am going to buy a truck load of vactrols of Allied Electronics soon and while im at it pick up a tonne of cool expensive knobs. Allied have the coolest knob choise by far. Well for modular kinda retro ones, perhaps not for midibox ones. Not sure. I fucking hate Jaycar :) The bastards. They seem to suck so much money from my pocket every single time i go. Yet so damn convenient it makes me cry hehe. Blank pcb, goto dick smith. Great price. Ferric Chloride goto a local etching supplies place/ LCDs i just buy from ebay Tubes, likewise I havent bought much with Altronics as Rockby is better and they are about 2 steps around the corner from each other. The only thing i would get from them would be Wallworts. You know it is all cool buying kits, it is so conveinient and it keeps some small buisnesses up and running so it rocks on many levels. At some point you might find that you want to make more than 3 or 4 projects and thats when ordering your stuff from big stores becomes more economic and worthwhile experience. The issue is the you kinda need to know what your looking for and lots of high level / low level associated names for the components. It took me some time to learn how to sift through stores like mouser, rockby and find what i was trying to look for. Good luck
