you mean the CTRLR panel? so far I can't find any way to load a patch in there, at least not from a syx file. I have the version from the CTRLR website, dont' know if there's some unofficial builds update: oh wait, you mean the java version... too bad I'm running OSX Lions, seems like it's not working with it... I wonder why MIOS does not store the patch in the buffer when you send it a sysex message... would make more sense imho

There's really a huge lot of great patches here! too bad I can't get them to upload properly to my Midibox SID (actually a sammichSID). But maybe I'm getting something wrong here. When I send the syx file with MIOS studio, the patch will end up overwriting an existing patch, since MIOS studio places them where they where on the original Midibox (my assumption) and there is no way to tell MIOS studio where to put the patch... or am I missing something? Tried to look it up in the manual but I can't find much information...

I just downloaded the latest sidplay from the official website and it runs fine on osx lion. The only problem is that there seems to be no trace of the virtual midi port that was mentioned at the beginning of this post. I'm wondering if the virtual midi port is only present in the unofficial builds...

The SID was working fine! it was the C64... Think I'll sell it for parts. I could change all the caps on it and see if it solves the problem, but then, I have a working C64 and a Sammich... I don't need another one... maybe someone else could get it to work. btw. I read that some people suggest replacing all the electrolytic caps on the C64, should I do it on my working one?

I have this old C64C that appears to be perfectly working, except for the sound (no sound coming out of it whatsoever). Could be a fried SID but also something else, I've been told. So I would like to take out the SID from the C64 and put it into the Sammich to see if it works there. Now my fear is that a broken SID could break something in the Sammich... is that possible?

well in the end I didn't wait. Just replaced the SID with the other one, and the noise is gone! It was a faulty one apparently. THis "new" SID is from a completely different batch (it's a newer one, since it's not marked MOS but CSG)but so far it seems to produce exactly the same sound as the older MOS one. It's even quiter... makes me want to replace the other sid as well, but now the noise is barely audible. Anyway, thanks for your help everyone! Now it's time to make some music!

I'm using two 8580. I re-listened to the noise closer, and I'd like to give a more precise description of it (sorry for not doing this earlier): It's more pronounced on the L channel, on the R channel I can barely hear anything. The noise is made of a high pitched hiss and a series of relatively high-pitched crackles. Sounds a bit like a digital version of a scratched record. I don't have the typical ground loop buzz. The noise also changes a bit depending on the patch, some parameter in the SID is changing the sound of the noise as well... Could it be a problem with the L Sid? I could try to swap it with another one? I have a spare one somewhere... Regarding the PSU: I tried to get a good one, regulated, 1000mA...

Do you mean the AC Adapter? I might try another one...

I noticed that there is quite some noise coming out of the sammichSID... on the C64 I had solved the problem by shorting the input to ground, is there a jumper where I can do this on the Sammich PCB, or do I have to do it by hand? I don't really use the input of the Sammich, but would be nice if there was a not-permanent solution...

coding is not really my strengh... so I would go for the "additional" box thing...maybe with some sort of connector in between... but I'll see, right now I'm busy enough with figuring out the Sammich as it is! :) thanks a lot for the info!
