  1. This is brilliant....thanks a bunch.
  2. The Virus TI-part is really their own proprietary method. The VSTi is there as an editor/librarian/etc. but also the audio is sent through from the Virus to the VST. So basicly the Virus HW calculates the sound but the audio itself is routed/sent through the VST and out through your sound card (or additional VST effect processeing as any normal VST). If you don't use the TI-part (VST) then it behaves just as any other MIDI-synth.
  3. Haven't tried it on my sammichSID but on other synths you usually make "gated sounds" through volume changes or use the arpeggiator. Some VSTs (Vanguard I think) have a special "trance gate" setting but that is not as common I think :) Why not load the factory preset in the editor and have a look ?
  4. Since you state that you can't solder (though you could learn :) ) and feels the sammichSID build guide is too difficult to follow (language wise). Then you're kind of stuck in regard to the DIY projects unless you get someone to build one for you or find an approved sale of a finished kit. I'm not sure how that works from the license perspective if you want someone to build one for you. You could look at the HardSID product or find a used Elektron SIDStation. The latter is not manufactured anymore so you'll need to look for a used one, pretty pricy, about $500-650 is what I've seen them go for when they pop up.
  5. Param1, I did the same as per an earlier thread (bypassing the rectifier) since I have the same situation. Got a 12v PSU but I measured it to 11.3v, it's not a switchmode PSU but simply not up to the advertised spec. I measured the voltages going to the SIDs after bypassing the rectifier and it was exactly 9.0v.
  6. Hehe, sorry. Got a PC, use Renoise with TouchOSC (iPad) today.
  7. Got a sammichSID myself.
  8. Hi, Is there a guide/manual somewhere that lists the functions/features that can be used through OSC ? Would be pretty cool to create a TouchOSC interface to control the SID-box :) But that would depend on if you can control everything through OSC or if it's just a very small set of parameters.

  12. Sounds great nILS, do you know which version the .dll should work with ? Is there any other configuration that need to be done, changed to get it to work ? Most likely the reason why the .dll don't work with the latest versions is because it's not needed anymore with ACID64 for the HardSID's. At least that is what it states in the feature-list.
  13. I downloaded the 2.4.0 version of acid 64, it do find the .dll and it will be found as a hardsid 4 device. But I can't still get it to work. Get the following hardsid.log output. 0000000005040734: log start 0000000005040750: (i) Unhandled call to void HardSID_Reset(deviceID: Byte); 0000000005040750: (i) Unhandled call to void HardSID_Filter(deviceID: Byte; filter: Boolean); 0000000005040750: (i) Unhandled call to void HardSID_MuteAll(deviceID: Byte; mute: Boolean); 0000000005084937: log end
  14. Does the hardsid.dll work with asid 64 (the .dll posted on the wiki link). Can't get asid 64 to recognize any device.
  15. Total newbie, have just completed a sammichSID build. Found references to ASID XP and have tried it and it's working fine. It do have a very "limited" look and feel though :)
  16. No problem m00dawg, since Param1 have done it under similar circumstances I took the plunge and tried it. And everything is working and I even got sound :) Wooopie!
  17. Maybe I'm wrong but to me it sounds like the adapter is delivering what I've measured, which is 11.3->11.5 (11.24 on the PCB after I've put the shunts on JPB). I tried the JPB "workaround" as Param1 says above. Which is in regard to this thread where Wilba asked Param1 to try this. So as far as I can tell it's the adapter that is not up to spec.
  18. Have now put the shunts in JBP, now the 7809 show 9.08v between GND and 9v, and 11.24v between GND and 12v.
  19. Did a recheck, The 7805 voltage regulator show 5v between GND and 5V, the 7809 show 8.2v on the 9v and 9.8v on 12V. The adapter as I said in an earlier update now measures 11.3-11.5v, not sure if I failed to measure it correctly the first time. As far as I can tell from the webpage of the shop that I bought the adapter from it's not a switchmode adapater, they have different categories for switching and non-switching.
  20. If I check GND and 5V it's 4.99v->5.01v (most check at exactly 5.0v). Yep I saw your thread in regard to the same question, will follow that and see what happens (I'll do it before installing anything else).
  21. Update 2 :) Got it working, as I mentioned I tried the Virus to verify the connection and it did work. But to double check I hooked up a small midisport 2x2 interface that I haven't used for ages, and lo and behold it was working. Have verified that buttons etc. work, LCD works etc. Did a recheck on the meter against the adapter and whenever I measure it now it's betwenn 11.3 and 11.5v. Will see if it works with the 6582 SID's or not.
  22. Update, hooked everything up again and when I watch the LCD it will end up with "Ready", I do a query from MIOS Studio, it displays "Rebooting MIOS". So it might be a Midi out problem from the SID.
  23. Hi all, I've just finished soldering the sammichSID kit, done the voltage tests and inserted all IC's except SID's and bank IC's. The problems are: When I did the voltage tests, all 9v and 12v was not up to spec. The adapter I got is set to 12v but only 10.5v when I measure the output (ends up being 7.7v on 9v checks and 9.9v on 12v check points). It's not a switchmode adapter. So question 1: Should the next steps work despite the voltage discrepencies ? E.g. the MIDI in/out checks, loading firmware etc. ? Question2: I don't get any MIDI I/O at all, have doublechecked the computer side with another synth (VirusB), so the computer side works. Tried the shortening test of pin 25/26 of the PIC socket (if I remember the number correctly, I pulled the PIC before :)). No loopback feedback. So I started to check the In tests, checking resistors, which at least with my multimeter is close but not perfect. Not sure if it's the tolerances of the components or the meter (the meter is brand new). E.g. 1.2kOhm is 1.18. Anyway, then there check in regard to the optocoupler and that the notch should be in the orientation in the J11 direction. I've soldered the IC socket correctly and the notch is in the same direction as the notch in the socket. So I guess that is right but since I can't spot J11 it would be great with a confirmation. That is as far as I've done so far. If you have any great hints/tips that would be great. Yes, there are shunts in JMI and JMO (using the outlined pins).

    [B] SID

Would like to build a sammichSID. Or depending on chip (un)availability, one of the other MB projects :) Let me know if you got any.
