Alkex Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Hi All,I plan to builld a nice controller with 4 2x40 backlit lcds, eache with 8 encoders/ledrings below (like the mackie c4)I know that 7805 regulators can get very hot with backlit lcds, should I plan a special supply for this project?I'm no expert in electricity so any advice would be well apreciated!thanksAlex
LenweTasasartir Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 IMHO, You can use 3A version of LM7805 - LM78T05. Ofcourse with radiator ;)If 3A is still to low, You can connect regulators together as at picture, or just use separate one for backlight of every LCD
nILS Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 It depends on the LCD and type of backlight how much current they'll use. Reichelt sells some "low current" ones that really only need a couple of mA. Check the datasheet to see how much the ones you use need. Add it all up, be a pessimist and multiply the result by 1.3. Then you'll have an idea how much amperage (;)) you'll need.
Alkex Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 Hi,Thanks for your answers, the lcds I bought from Voti require 420ma, so I guess I'll use radiators...... or watercooling ;DCheersAlex
LenweTasasartir Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 So, You have 2A only from LCD's.I suggest temperature desintegrator ;)But... why LCD must be backlighted from regulated voltage?! Can't it be just around +5V?
