Hi All,

I plan to builld a nice controller with 4 2x40 backlit lcds, eache with 8 encoders/ledrings below (like the mackie c4)

I know that 7805 regulators can get very hot with backlit lcds, should I plan a special supply for this project?

I'm no expert in electricity so any advice would be well apreciated!

thanks

Alex

It depends on the LCD and type of backlight how much current they'll use. Reichelt sells some "low current" ones that really only need a couple of mA. Check the datasheet to see how much the ones you use need. Add it all up, be a pessimist and multiply the result by 1.3. Then you'll have an idea how much amperage (;)) you'll need.
