Fader Problems

I picked up some alps faders not motorfader  :( from ebay.  The only problem is when the faders are connected the 7805 overheats and the currect drops.  I'm I wiring the fader wrong.  Here are the pin positons:

o

with o representing a pin.  Would the lowest pin be the wipe?  That is how I had it connected.

Errrrr.... why dont you just measure it out with an multimeter?

If you find the both pins with 10k (or whatever) you have it... ???

But if I had to guess, I would say that the both on the left are the total resistance and the one on the right is the middle one.
