toneburst Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Just a quick query:Is the LCD cable wiring described in this documenthttp://www.midibox.org/users/jim_henry/building_a_midibox_lcd_cable.pdfcorrect for the display on Wilba's MB-6582? I don't want to end up frying another LCD by connecting things the wrong way around.a|x Quote
strophlex Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 It is correct on the MB6582-side. The LCD side is dependent on your LCD. Check the data sheet. It was correct for my LCD and I connected it successfully using that guide. It is really good I think. Quote
strophlex Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Now that I read your post again I see you wrote the LCD on Wilbas box. On the red one it is a orient display I think and that's the same as I have. Quote
Goblinz Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Find out what part number you LCD is (usually printed on it somewhere) and do a search for the data sheet. The connection information will be on there. Then just match the pins to the ones on the midibox. Wilba's PCB is just a collection of the modules on one board so the circuit diagram/pin outs for the core sections will be the same as the core modules as sold by smash. Quote
toneburst Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Posted January 9, 2009 Thanks for all your replies, guys. The pinouts for my LCD are actually printed on the back of the unit itself, which is handy.I was mainly wondering if the basic orientation was correct, really. It's hard to tell from the photos if anything has been flipped.a|x Quote
Filch Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Just realize that for example Pin 1 on one LCD maybe VSS, but not necessarily on another manufacturers. Quote

Yeah, usually you'll need to find the datasheet for that particular unit- not always easy if you got it 2nd-hand, or on eBay. I was helpfully printed on the back of mine though.a|x Quote
Filch Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 My pin 15 and 16 are listed as A and K. Anyone have an idea which of those are considered + and - ? Quote
Wilba Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 A = anode = +K = cathode = -LCD backlights are typically just a bunch of parallel LEDs.Just like any diode, LEDs pass current in one direction, from the anode to the cathode (with exceptions, in which case it's considered reverse bias). If your LCD has "A" and "K" labels on pins 15 and 16, it's the same standard pinout:http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_lcd.pdf Quote
Filch Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 I thought as much. The backlight is working when I turn it on, so I guess it's right :) Quote
