nILS
Hi!Since I can't program my PIC18F due to the same problems some other guys in here have, I decided to go with the PIC16F for now. So far so good. Core is ok. Sends SysEx and all. SID Voltages are all great. 5.01V and 12.00V. Yippieh ;D Hooked everything up. I can play sounds via JSynth, too. But instead of cool sounds I get something that sounds like "bshh k". Any idea what the problem might be? ???
Trapstate
Hey Nils,What problems did you have with the PIC18F? Regarding your sound problems I would check the output stage of the SID: are you sure both polarized caps are connected correct? What value caps do you use for filter? Did you use the 547B transistor? If not, check to see if the pinout matches the replacement. You can also try sending different presets via Jsynth.good lucktrap. nILS
What problems did you have with the PIC18F?It won't burn. I get the 0000h error. Voltages are ok and ALL delays and settings have been tested...The polarised caps are correctly installed. I'm using the Cas the TK suggested in his orderlist. Heys, my resistor reads B547C. Is that important? ???I tried a lot of presets I got with the JSynth - they all sound like I described above... Strange.
Trapstate
BC547C is fine, it's the recommended transistor ;) So you can program a 16F, but you can't program a 18F? Strange, do you use the JDM programmer? Did you select the correct device in the software? Do you use a 8,2V or 8,7V zener? Is the connector of the serial cable connected to the ground of the programmer?
goyousalukis
I don't know if this applies, but I'll throw it out here just in case it helps anyone. I have an epic programmer, and I kept getting the code programming error when I first tried burning an 18f. I never got this error before with the 16f. Right before I got frustrated enough to post, I tried erasing the PIC first. After I did that it burned perfectly. Does the JDM have an erase function? nILS
Yes it does. Won't help though. At least not for me :(BTW, tried another SID still doesn't work...
nILS
If anyone wants to hear what that "shh k" sounds like: http://www.brennsoft.net/temp/shhk.mp3Just in case that helps solving the problem.
Trapstate
If you use the 16F, than you could try the SId_V2 test program which should play a chord at powerup. What did you connect the SID to, are you sure the sound is not clipping?
nILS
Hi!If you use the 16F, than you could try the SId_V2 test program which should play a chord at powerup. Did that with no luck. What did you connect the SID to, are you sure the sound is not clipping? The SID is hooked up to my mixer, so I should know when it's clipping, which it doesn't appear to do. Trapstate
AFAIK the circuit behind the SId should work as a audio buffer (unity gain) to protect the SID's output. You could try removing the SID (make shure you're not static charged!!), placing an audio signal on the SID out pin (and the other one of you're audio signal to ground) and than listen to the signal which comes out of the connector of the SID board.. I'm not sure if this will help, the mp3 you uploaded sounds kinda digital, maybe it's the cable between the core and sid or the 595 registers... nILS
Yippieh! ;DFor some reason ??? the SID suddenly started working. Thanks for the replies!
