(sammichSID) One SID louder

Hey there,

It's me again. No panic, it seems to be everything fine. No SID toast action or something else ;)

But after some time I recognized, that one channel is a little bit louder than the other : ~1dBfs.

It's normal ? I checked the soldering points of the resistors : all ok.

My SID types :

8580 R5 - 3988 25

8580 R5 - 3588 25

Maybe the tolerance of the resistors or the different types of SIDs are the problems?

If I don't know if it's normal or not, I have no ambitions to solder out the caps or trans and replace then.

I have the problem in Stereo and mono mode. I test it with the InitialPatch.

... and, no. I think it's not a user error :

I use LineIn channels on my interface, so no preamp differences. I tested 4 pairs of line-in channels, everytime the same problem.

AND ... I test another interface.

And no, the software/channel-strip is configured right.

SO I think it's the sammich.

Thanks for your help, again.

Greetz,

Tom

I try to delay the swap-action ...

But jeah you are right : the problem are the SIDs.

Now, I regret to crashed my matched pair of 6581.

But hey, this is the old cool shit and this is the reason, we love this things :ahappy:

I correct the level inside of my DAW and all fine.

I try to delay the swap because I'm afraid to damage the SIDs (I think you know why).

But after Fellmings post I do the swap (I hope the last time in my life).

The louder channel changeover from left to right >> SIDs sound different.

Do you belive in crystal balls anymore ? :sorcerer:
