commodoreeightyfour Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Hello, I really like the small form factor of the sammichSID. Sadly, I did not get in to order a kit on time. I would like to build something similar, but I'm having difficulty designing an enclosure that would hold the core+ 2 sids + my optimized C64 power supply circuit. I have seen pictures of some very small mono/or stereo sid's on the blog, but they all seem to used a wall wart power supply. Could someone point me to a small box that someone has built using the optimized power supply? I don't want to copy it verbatim, but I'd be interested to see how the innards are laid out. Also, is there a significant amount of noise added by using a wall wart type power supply? Thanks
Flemming Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Take a look in the ucapps.de gallery http://www.ucapps.de/gallery_midibox_sid.html You might find some in the gallery section of this forum too. I also find the box-part of a build to be the most cumbersome :logik: If you find a nice one, then please inform the rest of us 'box challenged' builders a hint.
nILS Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 * A wallwart doesn't add any noise if it's not a switchmode supply. * If you can't find a decent case (Pactec PT-8 should work, as well as the aluminium profile style case I used for fnpSID) go the sammichSID route and have one made @ ponoko * You will have a hard time making sth as small as sammichSID without a custom PCB as you need core8, DINx4, DOUTx4, bankstick, PSU and 2 SID modules in there.
Wilba Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 I really like the small form factor of the sammich sid. Sadly, I did not get in to order a kit on time. You may have missed the "last" batch, but since I've got over 50 pre-orders, I will be doing another batch in February. If you want something sooner, or you're keen on making your own CS and case, etc. I have a few sammichSID base PCBs spare.
