Shiftone Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) I thought I'd bump and old thread on the subject rather than start a new one. Then I realised the old topic is not quite in the right place so I'm linking it here; content copied below. [content] I've got my Sammich order in so I'm looking for PSU options in the UK as well. First @ orange_hand - did you go with that 500ma Maplin PSU and if so how did it work out? @ Wilba and anyone else that can help. 1. Is 500ma really enough or is it much better to try and find a 1000ma PSU (I'll be using stock LEDs and LCD) 2. Can someone comment on these PSU a) http://www.buythis.co.uk/pdf/5965.pdf (http://www.buythis.c...set=48&Orderby=) I can't tell if that is linear or not. b) http://www.buythis.co.uk/pdf/4927.pdf (http://www.buythis.c...fset=0&Orderby=) This one definitely is linear but at 500ma c) http://www.buythis.c...&offset=&mid=73 this is switchmode but regulated and the guy at the end of the phone says it should be a very clean supply... anyway - take a look and see what you think. EDIT boom and we have a winner; http://uk.farnell.co...ross_price=true can someone verify this is indeed 12v 1a regulated linear. Edited February 7, 2012 by Shiftone Quote
technobreath Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 the booming winner link isn't working :) Quote
Shiftone Posted February 8, 2012 Author Report Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) the booming winner link isn't working :) http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/displayProduct.jsp?sku=1176265&CMP=e-2072-00001000&gross_price=true order code - 1176265 try that. Edited February 8, 2012 by Shiftone Quote
technobreath Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) To me, these specs are a bit contradicting... But let me check something... I come back and edit this post :) Edit: I can't verify this as a 12VDC linear regulated psu. However, the specs says it is linear, and the specs says it is 12v output, but the one thing that isn't very clear to me is the input power. You have 230v or so in UK, right? But here's what you need to do - pop into the irc channel, and there will be a couple of folks there who can give u a good answer. I also haven't studied sammichSID too much, since I use the original modular design and also a mb6582. So I cant tell if that's the powersupply for your box. nILS and wilba can answer you much better. In general, switch mode PSUs will be much smaller and lighter than a bulky linear regulated one. And a dead give-away for switchmodes are the input voltage range - typical 110-240vac. A linear's input voltage will be way more specific :). Edited February 9, 2012 by technobreath Quote
Hawkeye Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Hmm both the farnell docu and the tech datasheets are of dubious precision: Farnell: Input Voltage VAC: 1V AC to 110V AC Great range, can i haz circuit diagram for this? Datasheet pdf: AD-12100R 12 100 (ma output current) F By their naming convention one would assume it is 1000ma (instead of 100ma, cause that would be the AD1210R) regulated and linear as advertised in the datasheet title, but no guarantees :) Greets, Peter Edited February 9, 2012 by Hawkeye Quote
technobreath Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 phew, nice to see it wasn't just me who was wondering about those specs :P Quote
